Assuming it is a fungus and not some other disease, the fungus treatment should clear it up in time to save the fish. Of course, that depends just how bad the fungus infection had gotten.

I would strongly suggest you not move the fish for a week after the treatment is finished. They will be stressed enough from being sick and from the treatment that the move and that stress would be very bad for them. Also, yes, moving them before the treatment is completed would spread the disease to the new tank.

I would NEVER suggest you attempt to treat ANY disease with Melafix, Pimafix or any other -fix "medication" that is on the market. These are very weak medications that rarely if ever can actually cure a disease in progress. Fungus infections are fairly easy to treat and respond well when treated with a quality medication.

Isolate your affected fish before moving them. Repeat treatment until fungus is not visible anymore. Treat the new tank just in case as new fish may bring new infections in. Once your happy that all the fish are clear, you can start to move them in together. Hopefully no fish will die.

Don't move the fish until a couple weeks after treatment is complete, and there are no symptoms.

In the future, a good anti-fungal product is Pimafix. You can use it with Melafix, also. How well your fish responds to treatment will depend on its species, timing, and luck.

The treatment should get rid of the fungus. See how they go in the next 3 days. Dont put more than one treatment in at at the same time though
