i have an almost white pearlscale goldfish. few days ago i noticed:
- a sore/ cut on one of its side
- a reddish bruised patch on the other side.
- the base of her tail is also slightly bruised (reddish)
- her whole head is also this reddish bruised color!!

she was not herself a few days ago before i noticed all this but now she seems to be back to her normal active self eventhough all this bruising has not gone off. what is it and what should i do?!

Suddenly my 12 gal. AquaPod has been over run with these small white string-like worms. They are just a little bit thicker as a strand of hair and range between 1 and 2 inches in length . What could this possibly be?

Hi,
I am just starting up a salt water tank and was wondering what the difference in live rock is and why is so importaint for a salt water tank? My local pet store sells "premium" live rock for $10.99 lb and "Grade C" live rock for $2.99 lb. Is there a big difference? Can I get away with the "grade c" or mix it?

I use bottled water for our 10-gallon aquarium, so I know I need to add liquid calcium to the water. I read a few different places that I should add 3-4 drops every day. I'm wondering if anyone else has any suggestions.
Also, I'll be having six snails in the tank (and I've already been told that might be too many; I'll have to monitor that) and I'm wondering how much to feed them. I know WHAT to feed them, I just don't know HOW MUCH.
Thanks! :)

Yesterday I put my two goldfish (a comet and a black moor) into a borrowed 20 gallon tank (don't worry, i cleaned it thoroughly without soaps and bought a new filter) until i can get a 30 gallon for them. they're alot happier with their new space.

but the black moor has trouble getting to the top for oxygen because of the current from the airpump and the filter. he eventually gets there, but is not succesful most of the time. i'm worried about him stressing out over it.

does the species prefer slow current? if it's just the setup, where is the best place to put my airstone to lower the current? (the filter is in the back left corner due to it's opening in the tank cover)

I have a 20 gallon tank with crushed coral at the bottem, 1 perc clown, 1 damsel and one small Pink Tip Haitian Anemone. Today i bought sand to replace the crushed coral. I took most of the water and put them in buckets, washed the sand really well and put it at the bottem. I then started to fill my tank with with the water again. The water is REALLY cloudy. I put my anemone at the bottem and my damsel in and the anemone rolled into a ball and now it wont move. I added salt to my tank and it all went to the bottem and landed on it. Now it looks like it got burned or something. I know I probably shouldnt have added the sand since I already had fish in the tank but the guy at the fish store told me it would be ok. Will my fish be ok swimming in the cloudy water? Is my anemone dead? Please help. Thanks

We started out with 2 x-ray somethings, 1 orange guy, and 2 fancy guppies. One guppie died in short order, so we bought two other fish, which also died in short order. Then a few days later, another guppie. Now one of the x-ray guys died. The 4 remaining fish don't seem very active at the moment either.

After each fish died I've taken a water sample into the pet store to have it checked and they say everything is perfect.

This is in a 10 gallon tank, we do have two small algae eaters, and two small dwarf frogs, but those 4 seem to be doing fine.

We've been feeding them twice a day. They have a nice bio-wheel filter system, heater keeps the water pretty solid 78-80 degrees. We have an air pump in there too.

I can't figure out why these fish keep dieing?

I guess if the rest die, maybe I'll try my luck at the Zebra Dinos which is what everyone seems recommend for beginners?

What am I doing wrong, how do you mess up with fish, they eat and swim right

I got my betta abt 10 days ago and it got ick about 4 days ago. I added aquarisol and extra salt to the bowl and finally today the ick started to stop getting worse. However, betta seems to be shredding its fin!! I can actually see pieces of his fin at the bottom of the bowl. And the middle of his fins is clearly thinned out. It seems different from the typical fin rot description. The thinned out part is white - there r no black/brown spots and holes/thinning are in the middle of the fin, not the end. Can someone shed some light pls?? Much appreciated

I am a beginner and this is the first fish that I have kept by myself. This is my third day with the goldfish and I am currently keeping him in a roomy bowl. I started him out in a smaller bowl, and then the next day put him in a larger bowl with treated water. He seemed to be inactive for very long periods of time yesterday, so I did a partial water change, replacing with bottled spring water. After that, he seemed to perk up. Today I noticed that the end of his bottom fin has turned black. He seems active, but is not eating his food. I left it there for a while, and came back to find him swimming around, with all the uneaten food littering the gravel. Is he sick? Could he possibly have fin rot?

In a 30 gal tank which was only up for about 2 months. We had air stones in it and a couple of fish. The fish seemed fine then one day in a 30min span they were dead. We cleaned out everything put back in live plants, no fish. We used a Nitra Zorb pouch AND a Prime and done routine water changes and we still have high levels. The filter is a Bio filter. Can anyone please help answer this problem? We've tested our tap water and it's fine. We are afraid to put a few fish back in until this is fixed.

I have a 10 gallon tank that I have some guppies and a Cory Cat in. I had to move my Powder Blue Gouramis into it because they were getting bullied in my 30 gallon tank. Almost right away one developed what looked like Ick and even though I treated him he croaked(I think I started treatment too late). Then a couple weeks later the other got the same thing and I thought that maybe it wasn't Ick since I treated the tank with all the fish in it so I was advised to treat for Hole in the Head Disease(the spots appeared more at the base of the head and base of the fins) so I did and it died. All along the guppies and the Cory have been fine.

Now I was just given a small Pleco that I have housed there until I get my new 20 gallon up and running. It looks like it has Ick. I do regular water changes, change my filter media once a month, watch the temps and on and on(I'm not new to fish). I just can't understand why if its Ick it wouldn't affect the other fish.

Any ideas?

I just recently got a betta from walmart, his name is Cyan and he is in a 5 gallon w/ a small hideout, 3 small plants, heater(tank around 82F) undergravel filter, the water is dechlored, cycled, levels of all stuff are fine. The problem is on his tail fin he developed red lines, is this fin rot? They are on the middle of his tail and keep getting bigger. What meds should I use to cure this, WHAT does he have??? His tail only looks normal, not dragged down when he is swimming, also there is a little aqaurium salt in the tank. Pleas Help!!!!!!!!!!

I want to get something for the convict's tank. Is there any crab or shrimp that would be cool with them? Or any type of fish that would be compatible with them? I have a red belly piranha that eats only krill, but my luck he would make dinner of my convicts, what do you think?

more info: tank has 3 fish: 1 goldfish, 1 albino cleaner fish (I guess, its not my tank, its my girlfriends fish. anyway its got those red eyes-totally creepy) and one algae eater. ok so 2 of these went to that big fish farm in the sky. The albino is still among the living. we deduced that the water became a toxic wasteland due to
fish waste.. so is cleaning the tank once a week enough? Thanks
