my freind just 10 minutes ago was cleaning the outside of the bowl with a cleaning brand.. She accidently diped some of the towel in the bowl.. We then panicked and got some water (that we put the purifing thing in) and then replaced ALL of his water with fresh water.. Was that the right thing to do????? because they say to to replace half of your water when cleaning ... have i done something wrong??? My fighting fish is now very leathargic and just sits on a leaf at the top of the tank.. im rlly worried!

I have a fairly large fish tank and currently I have 1 oscar in there, he is the only fish in the tank and I am interested in putting another oscar in there, I just recently put the oscar into the tank and I want to know how long i should wait to add another or should I do it as soon as I can. The oscar now is very small, and I was thinking I should add the other one now before its gets too agressive and territorial. Any input is welcome

My 2 1/2 gallon tank that has a tiny pleco and some commen guppies in it has high nitrate. I know larger tanks, but on a smaller tank is it better to do a larger water change or a few smaller ones. The filter I have on it is one for a ten gallon tank.

1) I do not want to breed my shrimps just yet, but my female is pregnant. I don't have an extra tank to let the larvae develop in brackish water. Is it okay to just let nature take its course and have the tankmates feed on the larvae?

2) I made a mistake and started feeding the shrimp sinking pellets. Apparently because of this they won't feed on the algae. Can I stop using the pellets and will they start grazing on algae? Will my catfish starve to death if I stop using food for bottom dwellers?

I have a 20gal fish tank, There are plants, wood. and gourami fishes. Recently, the water turns out to be yellow. I set up this tanks a year ago. And I am sure I am not overfeeding 'em. What is the problem I have right now? Would it be too many plants that they grow? Cut plants or I need a "Water Cleaner" to make it back to crystal? Do i need a water change? does it make fishes feel stressed out? Help me please!

Okay, so if you remember I got a very pregnant female...not totally "about to pop", but deffinatly not normal. I can see the spot where the babies are, I remember that much. But I can not seem to figure out just how long I should wait before preparing for the babies! Also, since the idoit at the petstore gave me two males, I went to a store that only sells fish and got 4 more females, two of which also have a little "baby spot" but are not yet rounded. I assume by next month I'll be overflowing with baby fish as I like to let the first litter live before letting the next litters fend for themselves. (luckily the store said they'd be willing to buy back any good-looking males, or good-sized females.) So is there a way to tell? Or should I buy the breeder box now, and put her in it when she gets that "about to pop" look??

We recently placed our male beta into a 5-gallon heated/filtered aquarium after he spent about 6 months in a 1/2-gallon vase. He seemed to do fine in the vase, but was very cramped in there and it was a pain to constantly change the water. He seems to LOVE the new aquarium - swims all over the place and in and out of his new plants, even playing in the current. It is so neat, but the only problem is he has not shown any interest in food since we placed him in the new tank. We've tried bloodworms and beta pellets with limited success. He is usually too preoccupied swimming around and playing, but when he does notice the food he just swims right by. I think he's only eaten a total of 3-4 beta bites and maybe 1-2 blood worms in the three days he's been in the tank. Will he calm down eventually and start eating, or is his increased activity and lack of appetite a sign that something is wrong?

I have a 30 and a 20 gallon -- glass tanks, tall. In the interests of stability and no more cyanobacteria, I want to chain them together, with the 20 as a sump and refugium.

Neither is drilled, so I would need to use an overflow box. Anyone have experiences, suggestions with these devices. I read at wetwebmedia mixed things. Some say they are floods waiting to happen.

What sayeth thou?
