I have a fairly large fish tank and currently I have 1 oscar in there, he is the only fish in the tank and I am interested in putting another oscar in there, I just recently put the oscar into the tank and I want to know how long i should wait to add another or should I do it as soon as I can. The oscar now is very small, and I was thinking I should add the other one now before its gets too agressive and territorial. Any input is welcome

Your thoughts are exactly right. Add any other oscars asap before the other one gets any larger or territorial. Be sure ot add others of about the same size and it wouldn't hurt to rearrange the decor a bit before hand.

I've always been taught that any aggressive fish like oscars, cichlids, or angels should be put into the tank in the number you plan on keeping right away to prevent them from becoming territorial. I suggest you buy the rest of the oscars you plan on having at once, remove the first oscar from the tank and put him in a pitcher for a few minutes, put the new oscars in the tank, and after they're all in, return the original oscar. After that, do not add any more fish.

ok if u want to put another oscar in wait about 1 month until ur oscar gets used to the new enviroment, and u have the water goin and tje biology of the water goin. another thing with aggressive fishes is that eith u put them bythemself or u put them in goups. cause if u have 2 oscars, one might be stroger then the other one and the weaker on will be misserable. but if u still want another one in there than u should buy an oscar that is the same size as ur oscar. be patient.

"Fairly" ... What do you mean by fairly.
A single adult Oscar can require a tank of 45 gallons.
Oscars big or small are territorial. If you have the size tank to accommodate more than one Oscar I would remove all and any decorations because mostly this is what they fight over.

Good Luck

When I added new cichlids to my tank, I rearrange the 'furniture' (rocks, plants, plastic bubbling diver) to stir up territories for the old fish and put in a tank divider (old fish on one side, new fish on another) for a few weeks. Then, I rearrange the furniture again and take out the divider. You can buy the tank divider at a pet store or make your own out of suction cups and plastic mesh from a craft store (google: diy tank divider). Good luck!

It depends on the tank size. If your tank is any less than 110 gallons, then you can not get more than 1 oscar because they are very territorial and grow large(12-16 inches). 110 gallons even is stretching the limits, 125 is better.
