Your fish will not die. Don't let it get infected, though. Keep the water very, very clean. He shouldn't be in a bowl, but if he is, clean the water EVERY day. If he's in a tank, watch the parameters closely.
Depending on Tankmates, you can add Aquarium salt (1 tbsp per 5 gallons) to prevent infection. Or you can add Melafix to prevent infection and speed healing.
If it does get infected and start rotting away, you can treat it with an antibacterial medication, like Maracyn Plus or Tetracycline.

First, that 2.5 gallon is totally inappropriate for even one single goldfish. If you want two goldfish, you need a 20 gallon tank. For three, 30 gallon -- they grow to 8 inches or bigger. if you KNOW FOR SURE you will upgrade in a year, you can probably start with three smalls in a 20 gallon. Never use a 10 gallon for golides. You can get any other goldfish that has eyesight issues, so they all can eat. Like a black moore, or even an oranda. Not a regular goldfish, since their bubble eyes are very delicate. No other kind of fish but goldfish. DO NOT get a pleco or bottom dweller, they will kill these fish. Good luck! PS, goldfish DO do better in groups, but only if you have the space. They will be unhappy by themselves, unless your tank is uber small.

Just keep your eye on him. If he's active and eating he's most likely ok. Don't medicate to prevent or you will create a problem you didn't have. The bubble will grow back in time. Remove anything sharp from the tank if you haven't already. Don't keep a bubble eye with any other GF except other bubble eyes, celestials or demekin (dragon-eye or moore). They are delicate, slow and cannot see very well, they don't need fast aggressive tank mates like comets or even fantails (orandas or ryukins).

the fish can heal fine, but the bubble will never grow back. Yes they pop, and its very painful for the already deformed fish.

Those fish are nasty looking. I never knew that the bubble could pop. Call the pet store and ask them, they might know.
Good Luck!
