I have a 10 gal tank w/ filter, UV light, thermometer.. I Keep it at 76-78F. I have: a Dwarf Gourami, Rainbow/Red-fin Shark, Mickey-Mouse Platy, Otocinclus, and a Bloodfin Tetra. Since we got the aquarium a little before Christmas, I lost a Crowntail Betta, Bloodfin Tetra, and an Albino Cory. We have 4 upright plants anchored by the gravel and two rock houses.
My questions are:
*I like to keep the tank extra clean. How often do I use the rock vacuum?
*My pH is at 63 and my Alkalinity at 180-240ppm, is that ok?
*Should I leave the tank light on 24/7 or should I turn it off at night?
*I like all my fish, but want a couple more. Any suggestions on what I should get?
*My other tetra died from ick, I think I also killed the cory while treating the tetra. How do I not kill my Otto if I have to treat again? (I used Quick Cure)
*We did an almost 100% water change last week and used Tetra Aqua Safe and Tetra Easy Balance. What do I do next?
*I want this to go well. Suggestions please??

I have 3 other betta's and I've never had this problem before. I got this betta last Tuesday, and I don't think it has eaten at all. I talked to our local fish store... and they told me to feed it shrimp pellets.... none of my betta's will eat those... I have tried 2 different kinds of betta food.

about a week or two ago a female guppy died(we think because of birth because there was a new baby) then a few days later another female guppy got a huge thing on her eye we don't know what it was. it was covering her whole eye. she was almost dead so we had to flush her down the toilet. after that the other two male guppies semmed fine, but they were fighting becuase there were no females. we got three more females and a male. they seemed fine the next couple of days. But today tthe old two males
lips were all puffy and they were scrathing against leaves. We had to flush them not to disese the rest. what is wrong with them? will only the guppies get sick?(i have neons zebras and a cory cat)
what should i do?
PLEASE HELP!!!

I was on a website, reading about my fish, and it said that in the wild, they enjoy eating vegetation along with the usual other fishie delicasies. They don't eat the live plants that are in there, probably because they aren't from the same reagions. I honestly wouldn't know. It's good that they aren't eating them though, I'd be kind of upset. I was just wondering, what can I find around my kitchen that is safe and healthy for my fish to eat? I've heard zucchini pieces, but I don't have any of that around my house. I want to increase the production of fry along with improve the fish's overall health. Any suggestions?

Yesterday I saw my catfish doing flips in the tank. It looked like he was doing backflips continuously, really fast. I checked on him a little later and he had stopped, but was moving very slow.

Even before all of this, he spent about a full day in hiding in one of my tank decorations.

What's wrong with him? One minute he's acting strange, the next he's fairly normal!

My brine fish eggs are growing, and they should be more bigger by tomorrow. But I don't know how I should feed them. This one book says to take an eyedropper to take up shrimp and put them in a dish of fresh brine shrimp eggs, with some yeast. But I have this box that is a shrimpery and it says for me to feed my baby fish from the fresh water in the collection boottle. I don't understand that.

I 'acquired' a goldfish in a very small tank before Christmas. He now has a bigger tank. When I set the new tank up I put the water from the old tank in the new tank and topped it up with water from the tap which had been treated for chlorine etc. I have been monitoring the water in the tank and everything appears to be OK or is heading that way except for the hardness of the water which hasn't changed. The water testing kit I have does not really tell me how to make hard water soft. Is there a product available that can help me out? (I am a beginner to fishkeeping and am on a very steep learning curve so be gentle!). Thanks for your help.
