I highly recommend a 2 or three stage canister filter for a 100 gln.or larger. For a 75 you can get by with a protein and biological filter combo.Skilter makes a good one.Rena makes a good canister filter.Protein skimmers are a must for a large aquarium.

Go to "About.com" and follow the links to "Setting Up and Maintaining a Marine Aquarium." You can find all the info you need to start a saltwater tank.

You have the right idea, the bigger the tank, the easier it is to maintain. Go with the 100 gallon if you have the room and the money. It will cost you in the neighborhood of $700-800 to get started with a marine tank. This includes filtration, lighting substrate, special salt and various testing supplies to keep the water at the perfect quality for marine fish. It does not include buying the fish.

Wait until the water is perfect before adding saltwater fish, they are extremely touchy to the water quality. I have a lot of experience with freshwater fish, but have never taken the plunge with saltwater because of the water quality issues and the continual testing to make sure everything is perfect. Then there is the compatibility issues and special foods for many of the very beautiful fish that the people who sell them to you have no clue about and usually don't tell you even if they do.

You are online, use the resources to research anything you have questions on. This site is not the best for getting good information, most of the people who post answers here only have passing knowledge of saltwater at best. Go to a site that specializes in marine information.

Copy and paste this link into your browser and good luck!
