Tropical fish do not eat until they die. As for Goldfish, most all of the different types of fancy Goldfish that are in the fish stores are man made and do not exist in the wild.

I don't know about which species of fish will or will not eat until they die when in captivity. But in the wild, there is only a limited amount of food. There is not enough for them to overeat, probably. And, usually, the fish's "food" (the smaller fish) are trying to avoid being eaten. Say that a big fish comes up on a school of minnows. By the time it eats just one, the rest of the school has escaped and the big fish has to spend more time searching for more food. Does that seem logical?

It isn;t all fish, There are some fish such as carp that will eat thier own body weight in a day but I think the majority of fish eat only when they are hungry and not just because food is available,

I've never heard of fish eating until they die. The stomach can only handle so much food.

Maybe they eat a lot to last them a couple of days in case they don't get a meal in those couple of days?

You could try searching pet related websites like petsmart.com or something.

i become in petco the different day and all of their "tanks" designed in basic terms for bettas are thoroughly incorrect. They sell those tiny "betta bowls" and those clothier tanks that don't actually have a lid. in addition they have this factor the place you additionally could make all of it fairly with rocks and lighting fixtures furniture and interior the top you're able to easily stress your betta out and kill it. No ask your self human beings are so stupid. while they see those betta products they are going to think of "oh, this become made for a betta, it is going to be the excellent factor" yet its no longer. It sickens me to think of of the limitless bettas that bounce from their clothier tanks and die or are left in tiny little bowls. human beings, for the main section, purchase bettas via fact they're fairly. in spite of the shown fact that unhappy, unhappy, chilly bettas are no longer fairly. If a betta is in an excellent heat tank his colorings would be 1000 cases prettier and he would be plenty greater lively and interesting to reveal screen.

Fish only eat too much when they are captive and not sure when the next meal will come.

"Eating until they die" is probably nature's response to a general lack of food in the environment where one eats when food is available regardless if hunger is present or not to avoid starvation when food is not available.
