How do I make my mystery snails shell the healthiest? Please don't just say "feed them green beans" please say something like "freed them green beans, First boil them then cool them off with cold water and then drop 1-2 in." I have been feeding my snails green beans, I don't know how much to feed them in green beans so if you know the answer to that please tell me. As well I have two mystery snails. Brigg species.

The easiest thing is to add liquid calcium to the water, you can get Kents liquid calcium at almost any petstore. What I do for mine is feed them a homemade snail cookie, which is high in calcium and other nutrients that are good for snails. I put my snails in the fish tank and when I scrape the glass to clean it, I leave the alga on the side glass for the snails to eat.
They also eat the extra fish food that falls to the bottom of the tank. This seems to agree with them, I started with six snails and now I have at least twenty, and I have given tons of them away to friends with tanks.

I will tell you what we did for ours...
He got nearly 3" in diameter and would have got bigger if my grandson hadn't accidentally boiled him with the heater...kids love little knobs, and he turned mine up and boiled all my fish!
Anyway...I let algae grow in the tank for him and I bought him algae pills, which are sold for plecostamous who are used to living on it in the wild much as an Apple Snail (Mystery Snail) is.
When they are found in the wild, they are actually wrapped, much of the time, in either string algae or in mud.
I also let mine eat the dead fish in the tank sometimes. If a small fish did, he'd hold it in his arms and devour it. Speedy was so kewl...he was smart also! He'd climb the air tube and get up to where the water flowed out and he'd catch the current and ride it to the bottom, then he'd go back and climb up again. I've got tons of photos. He was the kewlest snail in the world...
I have photos of him also eating fish. They say that in the wild, they will actually snap their trapdoor hard shell covering at the end of their body shut on unsuspecting small fish and will eat them that way.
