dull colors. not swimming around as much.(not as active) because most bettas just hang out on the tank it's kinda hard to tell if he's getting old unless there's something to get his attention, like a mirror. he'll think there is another male around and start flairing, even trying to bite. So if he's not doing what he use to do, he is eather sick or getting old.

Good healthy bettas can live up to 20 years.
store bettas are already 6 months old and are not very healthy because they were mass bred and put in those stupid little cups that are not healthy for them, so it cuts their life by more than half. I did have a store betta that lived for over 4 years.

There are really no signs of ageing since beta's only live tobe between 2-4 years of age.

Fins losing their lustre. The fins may start to look ratty. Also they may just float there not doing much.

I believe bettas only live 2-3 years....

Basically the fish will begin to "slow down" having much less movement in the tank. He may also start to eat less food.

It will be moving very slow and colors will fade.
