I was on a website, reading about my fish, and it said that in the wild, they enjoy eating vegetation along with the usual other fishie delicasies. They don't eat the live plants that are in there, probably because they aren't from the same reagions. I honestly wouldn't know. It's good that they aren't eating them though, I'd be kind of upset. I was just wondering, what can I find around my kitchen that is safe and healthy for my fish to eat? I've heard zucchini pieces, but I don't have any of that around my house. I want to increase the production of fry along with improve the fish's overall health. Any suggestions?

what are your fish? what they eat is dependant on species! fish such as plecs LOVE blanched cucumber and zucchini. where as corydoras won't touch it, they prefer meaty bloodworms! what do you have? livebearers? i have endlers, and they love a bit of brine shrimp or daphnia, as long as it's in small enough pieces! they pretty much ignore cucumber. but none of my carnivorous fish will deny a bit of cooked pea, which is excellent for their digestion anyway (fish laxative!), and strangely my vegetarian otos, completely ignore it! the otos will only touch cucumber if the algae in the tank is running low.

Blanched zucchini, cucumber, spinich or other greens are great for fish that love vegetation... and snails (so be careful!).

You can go to the grocery store, and buy a cucumber for $1 or even mini cucumbers for $0.30 or so. Try buying it once a week and throwing in one slice every week. They love it. You can also buy a nice mixed greens salad that has spinich in it, and pick out some of the spinich to feed your fish. The rest you can eat for dinner ^^.

I would go to the local pet store and buy frozen food. They sell brine shrimp, blood worms and a vegetable packs. My fish really love them. In my area, the cost is about 8 dollars for 120 packets
