about a week or two ago a female guppy died(we think because of birth because there was a new baby) then a few days later another female guppy got a huge thing on her eye we don't know what it was. it was covering her whole eye. she was almost dead so we had to flush her down the toilet. after that the other two male guppies semmed fine, but they were fighting becuase there were no females. we got three more females and a male. they seemed fine the next couple of days. But today tthe old two males
lips were all puffy and they were scrathing against leaves. We had to flush them not to disese the rest. what is wrong with them? will only the guppies get sick?(i have neons zebras and a cory cat)
what should i do?
PLEASE HELP!!!

They probably have an infection from some parasite that seems to be making them sick. Maybe you should go to a pet store and get some advice on what you can add to the water.

Or you can check this link:

1. stop flushing your fish! there is a risk of contaminating local water ways, and if the fish isn't dead it's going to have a nasty time dying! if it's not dead but it's definately past it, a bonk on the head and disposed of in the trash or buried in the garden are better ways to dispose of ex-fish. But it sounds like these fish MAY be treatable.

2. is there any sign of anything on their scales when they scratch? it sounds like it could be parasites. the puffy eye is called popeye. when you've had sick fish, don't replace until you know what's causing it! effectively create a quarantine. i would try dosing with Melafix, this is anti-bacterial and will kill off any baddies that maybe causing what sounds like mouth fungus and popeye, that may be in your tank. Have a good look on your fish, do you notice any unusual speckles on the scales? or anything fluffy that shouldn't be there? The only time i've had fish itch on things is when they had white spot (or ich).

Chances are the guppies have the weakest immune system which is why they are succumbing to this more than the other fish. Guppies are VERY over and inter bred and have a habit of picking up such things very quickly.

WOAH wait, did you just say you haven't cleaned your tank for a month? it needs a 20% water change/gravel vac once a week!

There is something in their enviroment that is making them ill.

You need to start over from scratch. Get some kind of container and put fresh water in it. Treat it or whatever you do with it. When it's ready transfer your fish into it.

The other tank needs to be totally cleaned. Never use anything to clean it with other than products recommended for that purpose. Never use household cleaners or soaps.

Clean your aerator and change the filter. Don't put anything else in the tank.

Put the fish back in and observe them. If they don't get any more sick or exhibit new symptoms then you can start to put things back into the tank after then are cleaned and only one thing at a time. Then observe them for a week or so for any reactions. If they are fine, add something else. And so on...

Never put anything into the tank that is not meant for the tank. Never feed fish anything other than fish food that is meant for them.

If you continue to have problems, ask at the store where you purchased the fish.

If you have not even had the tank for a month....this is your problem. ALL new tanks need to cycle! If you add fish before before this process or do not care for the tank properly while fish are in there it causes fish death and disease.

Do a 50% water change NOW. Add De-Chlorinated water.

Go to the fish store and buy some aquarium salt, bacteria supplement, and some common meds to treat your fish.

Please stop flushing them. Instead get meds to treat them.

I'm not sure what is wrong with your fish, you should call the local aquatic retailer,or go online and find an aquatic retailer and contact them regarding this. i'm 100% confidant that they can help you.

second. and most importantly, quit flushing your fish! This is cruel and inhumane treatment!

There are ways to humanely euthanise your fish (i'm not posting here, cuz people are crazy), but you can do just a very quick google search and find some easy and humane ways to treat your fish rather than just flushing flushing flushing them down the toilet.

I am not sure what would cause that, but ask the pet store. Have you had the water tested? Most pet stores will do this for free. I am sure it is contagious so if any others get it bag the fish and take it to a good pet store and have them look at it. (I personally would stay away from petsmart and petco)

It almost sounds like a fungus infection but I am not sure.

Suggest you treat your tank for what sounds like may be a fungus - several treatments available at Walmart or other stores that carry aquarium supples or at your local pet store - can't sy if any other fish besides the guppys are susceptible but suspect that they will be .

NEW TANK SYNDROME.
Your new tank needs to be cycled (water, chemicals, filtration, introduction of good bacteria) for at least 72 hours before adding fish, then only a few at a time and then a couple of weeks apart.

you either get healthy guppys or they are unhealthy. once they are sick they really don't get better they easyly. the good thing about guppys is that they had a lot of babies. i'm sorry to hear about ur fish
