I noticed the area surrounding my goldfish's right eye was red. Then a few hours later, it's eye is swollen(2 times bigger than the other eye). It could be internally bleeding. :( I'm guessing it bumped into the rock we have in the tank.

My $.12 gold fish were orange with black stipes down their heads. Now they are completely orange. Is this natural? Should I be worried? Are they going to die? What should I do?

The tank is 24" and standard size. I'm in Aus so I have no idea how many Gallons it is. After putting the plants in the water started turing green and the plands lost there colour and died. I have Chiclids and Bristle nose Catfish who seem to take an intrest in dead leaves. Not sure what has caused water to go browny - doesn't look like much alge. may be caused by Chlorphil from dead plants going into the water ?? maybe i need more light ?? I mixed fertalizer in when I first put in the gravel.

I also note that some of the plants had begun to shoot out roots before the died

I don't know what's going on, but today... out of nowhere, my betta has jumped out of his bowl twice. He's trying to die, and I don't know why.

I just cleaned his tank, but he's never done this before? I'm so confused, andLast time I caught him it was almost too late. What do I do to make him stop?

I need to get rid of red slime "algae" (cyanobacteria) in my marine acquarium. I have tried ChemiClear and Eurythromycin and it keeps coming back. It now appears to be resistant to both those treatments. Anybody have a good treatment? I have invertebrates in the tank so any treatment would have to be safe for them.

I have a beta fish and I am currently treating it for fin and tail rot with some Betafix.

What is the proper way to change it's water?

How much food should it be having per day /
perweek?

How long can it go without food?

IAre there treats it could have?

WIll it do any tricks?

I havent had enough experience with fish and this fish belongs to my daughter. I would like to know more about them. Like if they have moods or do they have a special way to sleep. Things of that sort.

Any facts and/or opinions are welcome. Thanks!

***PLEASE READ I NEED HELP**** I have had my betta fish for about 2 1/2 years. The last few days i noticed that he has been very inactive and rarely eats he just lets his food sink to the bottom. occasionally he will move around but for for very long. i was reading on another website and it said that he has what is called dropsy which is kidney failure and is unfortunately untreatable. He is bloated right below his mouth and is not as vibrant as he once was, also his scales look like they are standing on end and his gills wont close all the way. its not looking good for Gustoph but i wanted to check, maybe someone else has overcome this with their own betta, if so please let me know ASAP! it is urgent thank you so much. 12/7/06

ok there is a creek on my friends property and it starting to be winter here....my friend want to have fish in the creek but shes not sure if they will survive. the water in the creek is all from rain and that water is about a foot deep...could we put fish in it?and some of the water flows off a side of the creek in to another part of the creek,so we can have really small fish because they will just go down the small hill into the next part of the creek...so pretty much my question is will fish from like a petstore be able to live in there?

Thank you so much to everyone who responded to my original posting. Mr. Fish still lives thanks to all of your helpful advice, but I am having trouble controlling the biology & chemistry of his tank. At the moment, his ammonia & nitrite levels are spiking. I have been treating with Cycle, Prime (to remove ammonia, & detoxify Nitrite & Nitrate). I don't want to add too many chemicals, but am trying to balance that with not changing his water out too quickly so he doesn't go into shock (Followed advice of replicating original tank water sans pathogens and changing out slowly - all was fine until yesterday when the nitrite/ammonia levels starting going way up) . He has air, a filter, heater, etc. PH is 8.0. I have been feeding him algae tabs. Also, it appears there were baby snails in one of the plants as I now have about 5 snails in the tank. Do snails contribute to the ammonia levels? What do I do now? Pls don't say "ask the pet store". I've been to them all & they couldn't help.

Miikun, my beloved Betta boy just passed away yesterday. To be cautious I completely broke down his 5 gallon tank and cleaned everything, the gravel, the plastic plants, his homes ect. I had cleaned the tank too when he was sick so the filter has a new cartride too with floss. Currently there's a java fern in there that I got yesterday for Miikun, but sadly he was dead when I got home ;.; I read about fishless cycling but how do I get the nitrogen cycle to start? How can I get nitrifying bacteria to form? Will the java fern help since it is a biological entity in the tank? I read some people add ammonia and wait until it turns into Nitrite, then that eventually makes the nitrifying bacteria. I don't want to do anything that will harm the tank so advice is much appreciated!

Hello All!
I have 3 Black Female Mollys and 2 Black Males in their own tank, I have had them for 3 months and have only bred 2 fry (2 individual fry!) in the entire 3 months.
Do they start producing more fry later at an older age or should they be producing more now?
