I don't know what's going on, but today... out of nowhere, my betta has jumped out of his bowl twice. He's trying to die, and I don't know why.

I just cleaned his tank, but he's never done this before? I'm so confused, andLast time I caught him it was almost too late. What do I do to make him stop?

it's quite normal for lively bettas to jump out of their tanks, just another one of the MANY reasons you should keep betas in a real tank instead of a bowl. get a 2-5 gallon tank with a lid and a filter. that will stop him and he'll be a whole lot happier and healthier, plus you'll only need to do partial water changes.

Did you add dechlorinator to your water? A lot of times if there is still chlorine or a harmful toxin in the water, the fish will jump out to stop their gills from burning.

Also, I'd suggest getting a covered tank of at least 1 gallon. Bettas are known to jump out (obviously), so a covered lid is definitely a must.

I had a betta do this once and he did not live to try again. : ( I would get a full hood for your tank. That way he just hits his face on the lid. What kind of tank is he in? A bowl....just cover it will mosquito netting. (trimmed to fit top and taped with clear tape...kinda redneck, but will save his life. If you have him in an actual tank, just buy a hood to fit it. Good luck!

put a lid or cover of some sort on your tank. He's not trying to die he's jumping like many fish do. I have many tanks and most fish jump out of the tank if not properly covered.

Get rid of the bowl, get an actual tank, with a lid and everything. once you do that, go check out http://www.ultimatebettas.com for any other questions.
