In the wild yellow labs are grouping fish and always found in large numbers. To get the most out of yours they are best kept the same way. So first I would get more of them.

From there you have a choice because yellow labs are pretty versatile as they're tough but not very aggressive. you can add some haps or peacocks and make a milder tank, or you can go with more mbuna and have a more feisty tank. Don't go with both though because many haps and most peacocks won't do great in an mbuna environment.

For mbuna there are many you can go with, so I'll mention what to avoid, which is the most agressive species that will end up too much for labs in the long run. This includes Lombardoi (Kenyi), Crabro, and Most Melanochromis varieties. These tanks tend to get along better for aggression when less species are kept in larger groups, to disperse the aggression. While Labs can be mixed with males and females, most mbuna are best off with only one male in the tank and the rest females.

Yellow labs are pretty much compatible with most other mbuna, and to some extent can be housed with a peacocks and even haps (I prefer to keep them with mbuna). Additionally, you'll probably want to add several more yellow labs.

Add newcomers in groups of four or more since the yellow lab is already established in the 55 and will initially regard new cichlids as intruders.
