Hello All!
I have 3 Black Female Mollys and 2 Black Males in their own tank, I have had them for 3 months and have only bred 2 fry (2 individual fry!) in the entire 3 months.
Do they start producing more fry later at an older age or should they be producing more now?

Just to add to Zoe's answer, make sure that you are ready to provide the fry the right environment to grow and stay healthy. Molly babies are fragile and major changes in their environment (temperature, water quality, space) will stress them and kill them eventually. Also, make sure you are either going to give them space or sell them or give them away, but don't just breed fish to inhumanely keep 30 of them in a 10-Gallon tank.

Actually, what is happening is that the adults are eating the babies just after they a born. Mollies love to eat fry!
If you want to increase your odds, put in lots of plants for the babies to hide in. Set up a second tank to put the babies in when you see them. Fry are very easy to catch with a small fish net.

You can also use breeding nets ,which are small pastic containers that go in the water - you put the female in and take her out once the babies are born. Personally, I don't like breeding nets. It is very stressful for the mother to be netted and left in that small area for a day or more. She may abort the babies.

Fish dont usually produce many fry their first time. As they get older and more mature they will start producing more fry. They should have 30 fry once they are mature.
