i am currently breeding mollies and i think that there were some snail predadors living in the tank before, and the snails weren't a problem but now there are hundreds of baby snails multiplying by the day and i don't know what to do with them because i heard that they can go into a hibernation so they could live without water for 5 years or so, and i don't know what to do...

I have a single mail betta, I've had him for almost 2 1/2 months, this morning he randomly started blowing bubbles, really tinny ones. Does this have something to do with spawning? He takes a breath from the top of the tank and then lets the air out under the water. Hes lining them up on the side of the tank.

Have a 55 gl. tank. Did almost a 100% water change last night due to a green/white murkiness. Tank is pretty clear now, with exception to a slight white haze. Added CYCLE, stress coat, & aquarium salt. Also changed the filters.

Questions....thinking about purchasing another double Whisper filter to aid in filtration....will this aid in keeping water clear? Will it harm my fish?

So confused as to when and how much as far as "partial-water changes" . How often, and how much (in gallons) for a tank of my size?

Can't seem (even with the water change) to get my PH above 6.5. Tap water tests at a beautiful 7.0. Why is it different in my tank?

I've discovered that "water clarifiers" do not work for cloudy tanks.... How can they stay in business with such an ineffective product???

Thanks

Our neighbor "rescued" a bunch of baby goldfish from an outside pond. She gave us 9 but our tank is only 50 gallons. Where can we humanely get rid of the fish?

Its that time of the year, exam time! The semester is almost over and my roommate and I are getting ready to go back home for the winter break, but we have come across a slight glitch. We bought a Beta fish this semester and we don't know how to take care of him over the break.

We were thinking of bringing him home with us, but we can't think of a good way for him to travel. Someone also told us that he can live without being fed for a certain amount of time, but we'd prefer not to have to resort to that.

I guess my question is really, how would you take care of him? We are going to be gone for almost a month, and my roommate lives and hour and a half away (I live 5 hours away, so I definitely can't come back just to feed the fish). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey there! i reacently... inherited a 30 gallon fish tank. I have had fish before so I know all the usual stuff, but this one is... unique... my friends cousin dumped a half a bottle of bleach into his tanks(fish and all, he was breeding cichlids :( ) and I need to clean the chlorine out of the tank to make it safe... I know that I cant use soap, because that will kill the fish... so is there a safe way to clean out the chlorine from the tank. He has already tried rinsing the tank with hot water, and letting the water sit for 4 days with the water filter pump running (but without a filter i think he said so i am not sure what good THAT did) and took a water sample to the ministry of environment, who said it had 4X the regular chorination, so we think that the bleach may have gotten into the sealer in the corners... does anyone have any suggestions for a good fish friendly cleaner?? Thanks

My goldfish has been large for two to three months. Twice her width. Her size increased after a water change. She appears healthy and active and the male is prodding her and chasing. The water was cold, so I installed a heater hoping she would be urged to spawn. Is it too late for her to spawn? Will she become sick if she does not spawn? How long can she hold the eggs? HELP!!! I have already prepared the nursery. Is there something else I can do to encourage the process?

I have a new tank, and I took the hood off(to set up and automatic feeder for the weekend) but the blue filter part stinks! The water doesn't seem to smell, but its the filter cartridge. I did a water change yesterday. Is this normal? I tested the water and it was fine.

My alge level stays at about 6.4. Ive tried to get it up to at least 7.0 but just cant. Ive tried everything i know of. Ive kept fish tanks for a long time and never had a problem with this. I am also having a problem with the alge in the tank. Ive got another question posted about that. Since we have moved into a new house in a different location with different water i just cant get the Ph up. We have had fish that we owned for a very long time die and new ones that have been put in die. The only fish in the tank are these 2 catfish looking things that used to stay at the bottom before the bala sharks died. Since they have doubled in size and taken over the tank. We have had them for about 4 years and they have made it through the good and bad times.....seems like they are the only fish that are strong enough to survive all the mess the fish tank is in right now.
Anyway, what are some good suggestions for raising the Ph??

I have a 40 gallon freshwater tank. We did have 5 Bala Sharks and 2 catfish looking things that stayed at the bottom...and one HUGE sucker fish. We moved.....lost the bala sharks (they were BIG..had them for about 2 years) The catfish looking things lived and we still have them....they took over the tank and doubled in size. This is when the alge problem started. We got rid of the HUGE alge eater after the bala sharks died (i am sure that was a mistake) we have since put in 2 more smaller sucker fish and one is already dead. I clean the tank and 3 days later is is cloudy, green and just looks terriable. The PH level stays a little low since we moved into the new house....i spent about a month trying everything i could to get it up but couldnt.shells, chemiclas, etc..We have white gravel with a roman collesium in the middle of the tank...It's pretty big so there is nothing else. We have a Whisper power filter. Keeping my tank clean wasnt a problem till we moved. Im FRUSTRATED!!

I am spawning successfully but when I remove my female to another jar, it seems the male loses interest and allows his nest to disintegrate thus losing the eggs. After spawning there were also alot of eggs on the bottom which by next morning he had picked up but with little nest, I'm not sure if he ate them or not ????
PLEASE HELP ME. I love my bettas and am becoming increasingly frustrated.
Please HELP.
