My betta fish is acting kinda like a dolphin is this normal lol....I never saw him do it before. He sticks his head out of the water and bounces across t he water and back again lol like a dolphin clapping. Could it have anything to do with the fact that i placed him beside a light because i thought he looked so sad in a corner on a my dresser that now he's excited about the light
?

betta are lively little things, but they don't like light much so you may not want to keep him in the light. they naturally have dark murky water, so natural light that gets to his tank should be sufficient. he is NOT suffocating. bettas breathe air, he does not need a bubbler, it will create extra water flow which bubbles don't like. however, you should be keeping him in AT LEAST a gallon with a filter, but only if you can keep his water crystal clear. 5 gallons with a filter and some plants is ideal and is what would really make your betta happy.

Betta tend to be weird, but in this case the light may be causing a reflection on the surface of the water. Which he attacks. As far as the light. Bettas don't need much light, but as long as it's not really bright, on all the light, and he has shade. It not something to worry much about.

Betta can get bored. They are "happier" in more well trafficked areas where they can see things moving. Also a couple of minutes of time with a mirror is generally good.

PS- Betta are loners and mating is often violent and stressful. A male betta is far happier alone.

Since he started doing this have you noticed any bubbles that he is making? He could be wanting to breed. The males will make a bubble bed for the female to lay the eggs in and even if you dont have a female he could be practicing for if a female were to show up and feel like laying some eggs. Bettas are very very calm fish and normally arent jumping around . They are very kick back and will hang out in one spot that is unless they see another male, then they will go into action. You also said that you have him on your dresser right? Is there a mirror close by? He could be seeing his reflection in the mirror and wants to throw blows with his reflection thinking that it is another male.

Your fish is probaly suffocating. He needs a filter and a bubbler just like other fish. Immediantly add decholrinated water to his bowl to ad a bit of air. Poru the water in so it splahses a bit this will ad a bit aire to the water. This will help for a litte while. But you rfish will not live long! Your betta can not get the oxygen it needs from the air any more than you can get it from the water.

betta jump too... not for joy though... They either jump to get food or to get the heck out of their situation. Clean water?

He is sucking air. If you don't have an air bubbler or live plants or any way for oxygen to get into his water he has to get oxygen somehow.
