I have a fantail goldfish that I have had for almost 4 years. The man I got it from said he had it for a few years too. My fish's body is 5 1/2 inches long without the tail. What is the average lifespan for these fish anyway? It is mostly white with a few really bright gold spots on its head and front fins, but they have slowly been turning white in the last month or so. Other than that, the fish is in great shape, the fins are fine, no visible wounds or tears in the fins or body. The eyes look good, not cloudy, and it acts fine. So, why is it changing? I know that when they are young they do this, but why would a fish at this age change?

I just read that is your fish stay at the bottom of your tank and sit in one spot almost all the time it is stress .Well I have 2 red eye tetras and they are almost always at the bottom of the tank and just varely move out of their hiding spot..My tiger barb, serpea tetra and algae eater moves around and are very active.I do a 50% water change every week.Is this still stress or just the nature of the fish?

I put food in his tank. He actually puts it in his mouth, but then he tosses his head like he's swallowing it, and it falls out of his mouth. My other fish tossed their heads, but the food never fell out....

they have very small eyes so they have poor vison i got this stuff that kinda dissolves but the more i look at it it looks like it should be for like suckerfish to eat. i got it a tank mate too. its mouth is large and is frown shaped so i would think it catches the food not eating from the bottom. i got it bloodworms. should i return the disolving food? i need a bigger tank also..

So im gonna get my friend a eel for christmas, but i dont know how long a eel will survive in a plastic bag filled with water. I figure its probably the same amount of time as a gold fish. So my question is how long can a goldfish stay in plastic bag filled with water till it dies?

I was told that my parrot fish would get along with Angel fish and my silver fish. However, either the parrot or the silver fish ate both my angel fish because they weren't as fast. Anyone have any expericence with any of these types of fish? I want to get more fish but clearly Angel fish won't survive!

Hi... I am thinking of a 30 gal. tank for Christmas... I want fancy goldfish, but people say they are hard to keep... So I have a few questions.

1. How hard (on a scale of 1-10, 1 being as easy as a betta and 10 as hard as hard as a real cat shark or cuttlefish or something for experts only) are fancy goldfish to keep? I don't mean the hardy common types but the fancy types...

2. What are the easiest and hardest types to keep? And I mean which are more susceptible to diseases and which aren't. And tell me all of the diseases which one is susceptible to...

3. Am I asking for too much? Well, I need the information...

4. Anything else you need to tell me?

And DO NOT say "Goldfish are the hardiest fish out there! You don't need all of this information! Just put one in a bowl!" That tells me you know nothing about fish.

My fishy had a mild case of fin rot. I treated him for a week and he's been back to his normal self for a week after that, but he will not eat. So basically he hasn't eaten in 2 weeks.

I have Mardley mini-pellets, which he LOVED, and after I began to treat him with Melafix and aquarium salt, in addition to starting to add water purifier (if I use tap water), he hasn't eaten a bite.

Now that his fins are all better, I just add water purifier to keep his water clean (only if I have to use tap) everytime I do a partial change/full change to prevent future illness.

I've also recently moved him into a tank that's about a half gal. bigger (1.5gal into a 2gal) to try and cheer him up & get him to eat, but to no avail.

I do well about his water temperature, changes, and keeping him occupied with toys and tunnels. Someone please tell me what's wrong with my fishy?

All answers greatly appreciated! =)
