hello, i have tons of fantails and orandas i can tell u the way to sex them. first the male is the only one that developes white dots on the gills. they get this usually in the spring when its time to breed. it may look like ick but its not! ick consumes the body. the female is usually fater because she holds in the eggs. some ppl say that if they have long fins they are females but thats not true cuz i have a male that has really long fins. so i hope this helps you!

Males develop a ridge on their undersides that starts in back of their pelvic fins and ends at their vent opening. The ridge is absent or much smaller on females.
