I have a 3 gallon acrylic tank (12x6x9) (2 years old), a 20 gallon glass (24x12x18) (1.5 years old), and a 55 gallon glass (48x13x20) (3 days old).

In case this helps, all tanks have heaters, and all have fully functional filteration systems. There is one air stone. I also have 3 gallons worth of green pebbles, 20 gallons worth of blue pebbles, and 55 gallons worth of plain pebbles.

It has accumulated debris and some black algae. Would it help to buy a gravel vaccuum, or should I just replace it? If so, how do they work and about how much do they cost? Thanks!

I'm using the heat treatment on ich in my tank (as per http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_ich2.php.) The temperature will be near 90F for a few days, then at 86F for more than a week after that. I'll be doing daily 25% water changes and I'm really worried about adding so much water that's 10-15 degrees cooler than the tankwater, especially now, when the fish need to be stressed as little as possible.

If you've done this treatment in the past and can share your experience, I'd really appreciate it!

i have a ten gallon tank which had a baby albino catfish (only about an inch big), a pleco, and an albino rainbow shark (about 3-4 inches). I don't know what happened to my rainbow shark, he has completely disappered. I thought he jumped becasue he jumped onto the filter once before, but I have checked all around the tank and there is nothign and I lifted the big rock and plants but he is nowhere to be found? Any idea what could have happened?

Ok i finally just got my baby biorb, its just four gallons (i wanted to try something small for my first fish tank) anyway i was thinking of combantions of fish i could put in it, so here they are:

:1 beta, 2-3 guppies, snail
:4 guppies, snail
:1 ghost shrimp, 2-3 guppies
: 2 dwarf frogs, 2-3 guppies
: 2 dwarf frogs, 1 beta,
So are any of these good combos, do you recomend any other combos.
Also are live plants a good or bad idea in a tank of that size?
What kind of snail if i do get one?

sounds expensive. I'm guessing he needs land in order to live, which means he probably needs a big aquarium with a lid, which means, he's probably too much trouble and money for me to get as a playmate for my beta fish :-/

by the way, I'm just asking this here because what's his face doesn't allow IM or email... poopy head.

I've had a beta fish in one of the little starter kits for about a year but I've been wondering if it would be better for him to be in a larger tank. I don't know what kind or what size tank to switch to though.

he seems so lonely and sad. he just sits on the bottom of the bowl, or sometimes in the fake plastic plant. he'll lay on his side on the bottom sometimes, like he's trying to get as much physical stimulation as possible. he makes me depressed. I know he fights with males of his own kind, but does he fight with all fish? is there no little buddy or something I can put in with him to make him happy? can I buy a female beta fish for him?

I would prefer a foreign sounding name. Perhaps killer in a different language, or something. it's a girl betta and she is blue.

i am buying my brother a new fish tank for christmas, he currently has 3 goldfish living in a tank at about 25oC.

If the larger tank i intend to buy him is also kept at that temperature, can i keep the goldfish in it and add some tropical fish, or will the goldfish eat them.

Hope that makes sense

I have had my male Beta fish (Zeus) for about 3 1/2 years. How long do they typically live? He lives in a one gallon glass bowl with some rocks and a plant and he eats Beta pellets and freeze dried blood worms. He seems healthy. All my previous Betas have died after 1-2 years.

Hoping to get specific knowledge on how to build a convincing rock wall for back and bottom of tank, with built in spaces for a power filter and heater. Is there a way to safely seal rock to the top of a sturdy acrylic tank, so that the top, back, and sides resemble a limestone cave?

I will readily admit to having forgotten his bi-monthly tank cleaning and I feel terrible about it. I have since cleaned the tank, added fresh aquarium salt (the amount specified for recovery of disease) and added some BettaFix Remedy, which has served me well in the past when he came home from the store with parasites. I have had him for about a year and a half now, and am exceptionally fond of him. He has had bloat several times in the past, which the pea trick cures every time, but this is definitely NOTHING like bloat. I cannot tell if the base of his fin is red because he is a red fish, but he holds the fin very close to his body, eats only a little bit, his gills look completely out of whack. I can't be sure if he has the white gunk on his fins from fungus or not. Can a fungus eat away at fins? How do you tell? Please help?

I have removed him from the tank as in his weakened state the other marine life i.e newts are nibbling at him. He is about 12" long and been healthy till recently.
He is currently in my bath tub in quarantine, but not making progress. Food untouched and limited movement?
I also had a small newt that disappeared, I think that the Pleco has eaten him? If the case, could the plecko be poisoned and if so do they recover. Please help

Ok, my previous question stated that he was already dead. I checked on him, and he is not belly up anymore, he's kinda sideways, yet responsive.

Should I let him go naturally, or should I put him out of his missory? I've had that fish for a long time. But he looks really pathetic. I can't look at him anymore. It makes me sad.

NO FLUSHING!

Any suggestions on what to do with him?

I have a 55 gallon tank. My husband and I are keeping Koi in it. we have 13 (small ones). We both know that they are crap machines, But we've tried everything. It's not bacterial bloom because it isn't white, or algea because it isn't green, the water is an orange yellow color. We've also used a water clarifier "Clarity" but that hasn't worked either.
