Hoping to get specific knowledge on how to build a convincing rock wall for back and bottom of tank, with built in spaces for a power filter and heater. Is there a way to safely seal rock to the top of a sturdy acrylic tank, so that the top, back, and sides resemble a limestone cave?

Yes, there is. Go to Cichlid-Forum.com and follow their link to the DIY projects. There are at least two articles on building a convincing rock wall. One of them doesn't even require rocks, it uses foam that is painted with non-toxic paint for realism.

Sure, you can silicon rock to the back of a tank with out any problems. You can also use non toxic foam carved and painted like rocks to give you the look that you want.

One issue with what you want to do though is that you can't really seal in the heater or it won't work efficiently. It will need to have continual water flow around it to work correctly and must be placed vertically in the tank.
