I have had my male Beta fish (Zeus) for about 3 1/2 years. How long do they typically live? He lives in a one gallon glass bowl with some rocks and a plant and he eats Beta pellets and freeze dried blood worms. He seems healthy. All my previous Betas have died after 1-2 years.

Betas live to about 3 years maximum, so I'd say that you've been taking really good care of Zeus. For your other fish, that's pretty normal; my own beta died within a year, and he must've aged quite a bit during the time I didn't own him. Did you change the beta living conditions in your house before you got Zeus? If so, that may explain a lot about how he's outliving the other betas. Keep up the great job with him!

In the wild bettas usually live only about 2 years. But In the aquarium, if properly taken care of, they live 5+ years. Anything less than 3 years in a home aquarium and something is wrong.
