The sponge cells have thousands of little flipper tails, called flagella which they beat to produce a current in through all sorts of tiny passages, and out a hole near the top. This current of water sucks tiny food particles and bacteria into the sponge, which it collects and eats.

Sponges are filter feeders. They draw water into them and filter out any food in the water before expelling it.

They are pourus and absorb their food. Kinda like a big filter.
