Doesn't sound good. You are probably feeding him way too much. I feed mine about 4-6 of those little pellets about every other day or so and he is doing fine. I've had him for about 2 years now. Hope he gets better !!

Bettas will display their fins in all of their color to a mirror since they do not recognize their reflections and think it is another male infringing on their territory. The stretching of the fins and opening of the gills to display the membrane enables the male to look twice his resting size and is called flaring, or displaying. Since they are aggesive it may have also eating another small fish but a tumore is out of the question. SImple hold it in you hand an squeez gently to determine if is food or a marble.

It is probably constipated. Try cooking a pea and removing the shell. Feed the insides of the pea to your betta and it should clear things up. Peas are a natural laxative for fish.

You could be feeding it too much.. Which is really bad for them. I would know, I overfed my fish to death. AH! That sounds terrible haha.. I really didn't mean to. But if you overfeed them something happens to their kidney and they start to float more to one side.. That's when you know you have a problem. How often are you feeding him? It should be every other day, and as much as he can eat in 30 seconds. Teeny pinch.

You may be feeding him too much-- typical problem with beginner fish owners. Try feeding him just a pinch of beta food a day.

If overfeeding is not the issue, or the fish will not eat, it could have a disease or illness that can be treated.
