My super cool 45lb female dog feels discomfort in her rectal area until the glands just beneath that spot leak out about 1/4 cup of clear fluid. The liquid is mildly pungent but doesn't smell like feces. I don't know what the glands do. The vet says many dogs experience this and they can be surgically removed (very expensive) but I don't think surgery is good for an animal--it's very traumatic and difficult to prevent infection. The alternative is to learn how to drain them myself but that's kinda wierd to me--I didn't get her for that purpose lol. I like cuddling with my dog but not squeezing her butt. What would you do? Should I force my 9 year old step son to help out?

Ok, recently one of my relatives got pregnant, but something was wrong with the baby, therefore she got an abortion. I forget what was wrong with the baby, but my mum told me that happened because my relative has a dog (or that's what she said the doctor said).. anyway I looked on yahoo answers and some people say it's safe to have a dog around during pregnancy.. so.. is it or isn't it? Was what happened to my relative rare?

I moved to Miami I have an American staffordshire terrier. he's micro chipped and have normal vet papers. I don't have AKC papers or anything like that though. pit bulls are illegal here and people confuse him a lot with one! they even took pictures of my backyard showing him! so what should I do? I'm scared that if I take him for a walk people will call the animal control. I WONT GIVE HIM AWAY! do I need anything else to prove that he's not just in case? please help I love my dog

I found a bug on my dog today. Its not fleas or ticks (I know what those look like). This one crawls very very fast and hides in his fur. Its bigger than a flea. What is it and how do I get rid of it? I already use a flea prevention and bathe him regularly.

Our yard is about 70' x 45', in your opinion is this too small for a Lab? Our friends found a lab and he needs a permenant home as no one has claimed him. I jog, so he would get exercise.

I know someone that breeds dogs and she told me that you can remove newborn puppies dewclaws at home and I just wanted to know if that is true. Also can you give shots at home yourself? She says that she does the vaccinations and worming herself. I wanted to know if that is safe. Thanks.

I read somewhere (on the internet, I think) that if your dog's ears are really hot and the nose is warm and dry it is an indication of a fever. Basically it said: hot ears and dry nose = sick; normal ears and cold, wet nose = well. Is this true? Just wondering. Thanks.

My dog recently goes up to random people, usually first or second time visitors and pees on them! He never ever pees anywhere else except outside. I tried to stop him from jumping on the persons leg to do it, but even without his preferred position he still pees! Like I said it doesn't happen all the time. He is one years old and just started having this problem! I don't know what to do because I can't predict when he does it! What do I do?!?! HELP!

on here that could be easily answered with a simple phone call to your vet or the breeder you got the dog from? We've got people on here with pregnant dogs, dogs with infections, possible allergic reactions etc taking the time to log on and type out a question and then wait for answers.

Ok one if your dog is present and you're doing the right thing and taking her to the vet then you should have your vet's emergency number in case you need anything. Any vet worth their salt will do this.

Two the time you could have spent on here typing and waiting you could have looked the emergency vet clinic up a lot quicker.

And this is just my opinion but why ask OTHER ppl what to name your dog? Thats like asking someone else to name your kid. Its your dog you bought it or were given it you name it.

I have two boxer's a female and a male. The female is 11months and is the dominate one, the male is 8months. I have purchased training books/dvd's and they dont work because my wife doesnt stick to what they say to do. So should I save and take them to doggy boot camp or let them learn by using a shock collar.

I have relatives that train Lab's with shock collars and they say they live by them because after a few corrective shocks they learn not to bark and jump unless told to.

Has anyone heard this one? A previous answerer said this but I'd never heard this.

I know there's a lot of erroneous things floating around about what is or isn't poisonous to dogs, but I think I know the fact from the fiction.

I've gotten my puppy to pee in cage, but he just can't seem to poop there. I've tried putting his feces in the cage but he ignores it. I've gotten this spray that says wherever you spray it, the dog will pee/poop there, but it hasn't been working. Any suggestions?

I have a one year old beagle and he is the best dog ever until we have a guest. Then all he wants to do is jump up on them. My father is handicap and coming for christmas dinner and I am scared he will jump on him. What should I do. My dad loves dogs but no one wants them to jump on them. I guess I could answer my own question I should put him in his cage. But he is a good dog after the new wears off.

Well, not actually c rap, but I asked another question and apparently Pedigree food is junk. I thought since it was a big name brand that it would be good. But, my dog has the runs and everybody here says it's junk. She just recentlly (about 3-4 months ago) started eating Pedigree wet food and has has diarreah most of the time. Beofre that she ate MutroMax dry food, but I changed her due to a minor illness that she has since gotten over. Soo, what is good food? Should I go back to the dry NutroMax? I have no reason not to, she just seems to like the wet a lot better so I kept buying it. Any suggestions? She is a 6 YO English Bulldog, if it makes a difference. Thanks a bunch.

ok, well i am scared because she has asthma, and if she is overcrowded or pulled on her collar in a not gently way, or is she gets yelled at, 1 of these causes her to have an asthma attack, what can i do to stop being fearful for her because i suspect and my mother does she has ashtma because she might be fearful of suffocation and concluding death, i love her, and i am scared for her. i never abused her, i am against animal abuse, so idk y she has asthma, what can i do to stop beng fearful for her, because dogs can sense a persons feelings.
ok now this is weird, this is the 2nd time in the past 20 min she is having another asthma attack, but nothing happened!
she is just resting on my bed, both times!
WHATS HAPPENING?!?!?!

My dog was sick with some stomach problems a few months ago and during that time the vet switched her to some prescription food. She had previously eaten dry food her whole life (6 years) but the vet switched her to wet food and I just kept her on it even after the illness cleared up. However, she has had diarreah recently and I think it is because of her food. I feed her Pedigree chunky wet food exclusively. She doesn't get any human food. I do swithc flavors of the food, just like from chicken and rice, to beef and rice to lamb and veggies, etc. but it is all the same style from the same brand. Switching flavors isn't a big enough change to give her diarreah, is it? Should I just get one flavor and always giver her that? Or should I change to a different brand or back to dry food? She seems to really love the wet food(I'm sure it tastes better than dry) but she always has diarreah.

Do you take your dog to get pics taken with Santa?
Our local PetSmart does it for $10 and $5 goes to the local SPCA. I think its a pretty cute idea, you get a gift shaped frame to go with it as well. (Which our dog already got to and chewed off the plastic bow)

Just wondered if anyone else does this!

Here Nixons first pic since we adopted him from our spca in October. We took the original and put it in Photoshop to make it into a Christmas card for our family hehe.

My 2 year old cocker and 9 week old shih-tzu mix are play fighting in the floor. The cocker is a considerable amount bigger than the puppy, but as they "fight" they pounce at each other, then turn and almost bump butts then jump at each other again. The cocker is careful not to hurt the pup- it's all completely harmless, but I'm wondering about the butt bumping. Is this normal? Or are mine especially friendly?

Both males- cocker is neutered and has been since he was 6 months old. The baby isn't old enough yet.
