I moved to Miami I have an American staffordshire terrier. he's micro chipped and have normal vet papers. I don't have AKC papers or anything like that though. pit bulls are illegal here and people confuse him a lot with one! they even took pictures of my backyard showing him! so what should I do? I'm scared that if I take him for a walk people will call the animal control. I WONT GIVE HIM AWAY! do I need anything else to prove that he's not just in case? please help I love my dog

I had to move to this garbage city to go to college because unfortunately my family lives here, but I'll definitely move out in about a year or so.

I really wouldn't take him out. It doesn't matter what you tell your neighbors he is ... they are going to believe their eyes and complain about you, probably to the police. And if they don't make you get rid of your dog outright, they may impound him instead. Many people put "Am Staff" or "Am Staff Mix" as their dog's breed on paperwork, when its just a pure pit (I worked at an adoption place that did this).
Of course, not taking him outside is kind of cruel, and impractical. Guess you have to move.

There is so much discrimination against pit bulls, and we have the crappy owners to thank for that!. Every city has it's own laws in place, so your best bet is to make a few phone calls and find out directly from someone who knows what they're talking about. Do you have any paperwork from wherever you got the dog saying specifically what breed it is? If so, maybe carry it with you? I really feel your pain. I had to moved to a military base in Hawaii a few years back, and unfortunately my pit bull was not allowed. It really really broke my heart to leave her but luckily a friends of mine had bought some land and had just started an animal rescue, so my baby girl was her first "rescue". I know this isn't much help, but i wish you and your dog the best of luck!!!!!

There are an awful lot of uneducated people in the world. I'm sure that people that are familiar with dogs will know that your dog is not a pit. Just walk your dog as you normally would, if animal control is called and they come out then they will know that your dog isn't a pitbull.

Sorry to tell you this but an american staff IS a pitbull. Pitbull is not a breed, it is a classification of several different breeds including the pitbull terrier, amstaff, staff bull, presa canario , etc... I love pits I think they are highly misunderstood dogs but the local govt does not see it that way. If you are caught walking that dog, you will lose him/her.

You can maybe see if your vet can confirm he's not a pit bull. They can write up something stating that.

If you take him out, take a copy of papers proving he is not pit bull, just like you take your drivers license with you.

well your dog isn't a pitbull right? so just walk him and if people ask just tell them..that way word will spread and everyone will know..and if they call animal control just show them the papers which specify that he's not a pitbull..
