I have two boxer's a female and a male. The female is 11months and is the dominate one, the male is 8months. I have purchased training books/dvd's and they dont work because my wife doesnt stick to what they say to do. So should I save and take them to doggy boot camp or let them learn by using a shock collar.
I have relatives that train Lab's with shock collars and they say they live by them because after a few corrective shocks they learn not to bark and jump unless told to.

My boxer's are always barking at cats outside, other dogs and jump on everyone when they come in the house.

My dogs stay inside unless they need to go to the bathroom, daily exercise, walks/runs and that is it.

all dogs need training so i would def spend the money on a good trainer that can help you out and use the shock collar as a very last resort. it's better for the dog to be trained with hand signals or words than to rely on a shock.

Shock collars are an effective and humane training tool if used correctly. However if misused the can be cruel. They should only be used in short burst (1 sec or less) to correct a behavior as it is occurring. Get a collar with adjustable levels. Before you ever put the collar on the dog put it against your arm and activate it, never use it on the dog at a level higher than you are willing to shock yourself at. The good thing about shock collars is the dog does not associate the correction with a person. With your wife being unwilling to correct the dogs this may be the more effective method, because if you train the dogs not to jump but she allows it then they will only not jump when you are around. Also in general I don't recommend the "doggy boot camps" where you leave your dog and someone else trains them. They tend to be ineffective in the long run because your dog is learning to obey the trainer and not you. For training to be effective you need to get your wife on board with training the dogs and both of you participate in the training.

I regret shock collars, sometime they'll change in their behaviors.
Have your wife stick with a training school, or have someone come to the house.
I did. It's 100% understandable how to work with your dogs with a trainer in fact you'll be surprise how quick they'll learn if your wife & the trainer work together. But she can't Quit after the trainer has taught her the best for the dogs. Be fair or there's a sign that someone isn't an dog lover !... if you love your dog, then do it right, the dog will be your best friend.

Shock collars could backfire on you bigtime. I have seen dogs react very badly to this. Yes, people use them and they get what they want but not always and the other side of that coin is too big a risk to take. You are substituting good training with physically shocking them. Your wife needs to jump on board or they will not respect her eventually and then you will have an entirely different problem to deal with.
Have you looked a the citronella collars? Basically when they bark they get sprayed in front of them with citronella and dogs dont like that smell at all. I have seen this work with a dog I know from the dog park. I literally watched him on his second day with this collar and he was still getting used to it but was hesitating and looking at his owner when he wanted to bark already. Then she praised them. Wouldnt that be better??

NO SHOCK COLLARS! Shock collars are inhumane and cruel. Not only that, but when my dog was much younger, we had a shock collar for her. It shocked her when she would bark, but it would also shock her when she would walk on the carpet in our living room. PAY FOR TRAINING. You'll be glad you did. You will receive help from certified and professional dog trainers.

Get your wife on board with the training. If you send them off, you will still need to reinforce what they learn. If she refuses, it won't work, again. Plus, you want your dogs to learn with their owners, not strangers.
Using a shock collar because someone is too lazy to help train is just plain mean, IMHO.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/xtop4
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Invisible fence? Not mean?!!! Just to keep them in so they will not be hit by a car! Same as a shock collar - use it only when needed and only a short burst! Not inhumane at all - Some dogs take to lessons some only to direct effect - to each their own! but whatever works to keep the family member safe and at home!

Shock collars and anything that hurts an animal is cruel.
A good master takes their dogs in for training and sticks to it and controls them by those means.
