I think you should keep your dog on it's leash until it's calm then you can let your precious little pooch of the leash. I had a hyper golden retriever that hurt my cousin by jumping up. We tried this "technique" with her and now she's mellow and my cousin isn't scared anymore : )

having many dogs and being that I am a certified veterinary technician, I would suggest you put a leash on your dog, and while you introduce your father to your dog, have your dog at a distance where your father can pet him and give him some attention, but yet not room enough jump on him. Once they have met, put the dog away for a half an hour and let him get used to the sound of new guests, then put him back on the leash and reintroduce until a sense of familiarity is developed. I hope this helps you out, I know it has helped many of my patients.

How handicapped is your dad? the best solution is to turn away from your dog when he jumps, they do it for attention. Take away any attention (positive or negative) until he sits or at least has all four feet on the floor.
If your dad can't turn away quickly or there is a risk of him getting knocked down, I would put a leash on the dog until your dad gets in the door and gets settled, then slowly let the dog greet him. Have your dad give him some treats and calmly pet him until he chills out.
Good luck

Get people who don't mind volunteering to swing their knee hard into his chest. Make your dog really feel it. I know a lot of us don't want to hurt our dog, or any animal for that matter, but it's probably the only way to make dogs stop jumping on us. Your dog won't like it, and he'll learn not to jump. Do it a few times with people who don't mind helping out, until the next time a guest comes into house, he doesn't jump up on them. Hope this helps! And yeah, the leash technique works!

Your dog just wants attention. You could ask your friends and family to ignore him when he is jumping up and being a pest and pet him calmly as soon as he settles down. He will learn that being polite gets him more attention than being rude and obnoxious. It will take several times, though, so hopefully you have some patient guests who will help you out with this. Good luck.

Try keeping your dog on a leash when company comes over. If he goes to jump up you can correct him with the leash and tell him NO sternly. A few repititions of this should get the point across.
To help him learn even faster, reward him with lavish praise and treats for keeping all four on the floor.

Your dog is excited, that's all. I'll bet that he jumps on you when you return to your house. And I'll also bet that you pay attention to him when he does this. SHAME ON YOU! This may take several weeks for you to break him of this habit. When you return home and he is jumping on you to get that attention, DO NOT PAY ANY ATTENTION TO HIM. Rather turn your back on him and continue to do whatever you planned to do when you came home. ONLY ONCE HE IS CALM and sitting down should you greet him. Do this every time you come home and tell your visitors to do the same. It will not be too long before he realizes that by jumping on people he misses out on being greeted and will sit down at your feet when you come home, or for that matter when you have visitors.
