Our yard is about 70' x 45', in your opinion is this too small for a Lab? Our friends found a lab and he needs a permenant home as no one has claimed him. I jog, so he would get exercise.

If its your yard or no home, take the dog. Labs are great dogs and if you jog on a regular basis (and you take it with you) it should be fine.
Everyone says Labs have so much energy, and it's mostly true, but my parents have a Lab (pure) that is the laziest dog I know. Yes-it's healthy, it's been to the vet. He's 11 now, but even at 2 years old he was happy to just lay on the living room floor and not move?? It was weird, and when we walked him he was fine and ran around. Maybe he just knew to be calm inside. You can train the dog to be calm inside, my dog responds to a "settle" command which means chill out and lay down while you are inside.
thanks for taking in a stray, they make the BEST pets, it's like they know and are thankful.
Both of my pets were homeless and they are the Best
Good Luck

No, that's a suitable yard I feel... and if you are a jogger, they dog would get substantial exersise. Just watch him for a few days in your yard, because if your friends found him wondering, there's a possibility that he escaped a yard somewhere, and he might be a digger or a fence jumper. Just keep an eye on him and see what he does, but best of luck to you and your new family member! I have a 56' by 25' yard for my Boxer and Wlesh Corgis, I'll be moving this week to a house that has a HUGE yard more like a 100' by 75', but my dogs never stay outside long, only long enough to go to the bathroom and it's right back in the house for them, they love being with the family and not being left outside. Maybe your Lab would like the same. Dogs like being with the "pack", and not stuck as an outsider.

A yard is absolutely helpful for any dog, especially a large lab, but is certainly not necessary. Just make sure he gets regular exercise and play (which if you jog daily it sounds like he will) and he will be good to go! And besides, if no one has claimed him, better that he go with you and a small yard than the pound and no yard at all! :o)

No, not at all. I would recommend that it be fenced in with at least 6' high chain link, or at least make an enclosed kennel.
This is so the dog can get plenty of fresh air and exercise, and also so he can enjoy the outdoors without risking getting free. They love to just sit and watch everything going on around them
A Lab is a highly athletic and agile dog. They can easily clear a 4' fence without touching it, so if you can, make sure the kennel has a roof or is enclosed at the top with chainlink.
They can also climb fences easily.

If you give proper exercise and keep him active, you should be fine. We have 7 dogs in town, but are 2 blocks from a school that allows dogs and we take them for runs down there. You can also teach tricks to keep his mind active. Just be sure to keep him moving and don't let him get over weight. This breed can also get hip and elbo displatia (sp?) so just keep an eye out. Good job for rescuing!

No, that would be fine. You can throw a ball or frisbee for him to fetch and he can get additional exercise that way, in addition to running with you. Labs hate to be left outside alone, so keep him well exercised but let him live inside. :)

No yard is too small if you walk and exercise it everyday.

No, its not, it could be bigger, and make sure he is not left just outside all time, you say you jog, good, he will get alot of exercise, be sure to put leash on him,. so wont get away and get hit by a car...

good luck,,,,,

i think that would be fine if you took her on your job each day . but be shure to let her in all the time to show that she's loved.
