I have been through 4 groomers til I found one that could cut my bichon right. One groomer shaved a 5'' ring around her belly and I about fell out. One cut all the fur off her ears. Another cut her short and cut her head like a Schnauzer. It took the fourth groomer to do her like a bichon. Is a Bichon groom and cut that hard?

My pitbull has those prickly things that some weeds grow stuck in her mouth, on is on the very tip of her tongue and 2 or more are stuck 2 the gums rite under it, she refuses 2 eat or drink because that drives it into her tongue, also she seems dehydrated because she is foaming a little bit, well alot, but it isnt rabies foam because her personlaity hasn't changed a bit. She also wont hold still for me to remove it because she is too hyper. What should I do?!

The Doctors can't figure it out. It happened to my Grandmother as well (at 70). I wondered if the return of my period had anything to do (strange as it sounds) with my mini Italian Greyhound being in heat and sleeping in my bed. Her mensus blood got on the sheets for a few nights and it was quite messy. It got on me too. I washed everything, but still her hormones touched my skin for several days. So I might have had a dermal hormonal infusion from the dog. Does that sound plausible?
You do hear of women living under one roof getting their periods all at the same time. But does this apply to dogs as well?

I got a notice from the vet. I assume they will do the heart worm test, which will cost money, and then sell us the heartworm medicine at a mark-up. I know I can get the same medicine at a discount elsewhere. I don't mind taking him in for the test, if it is necessary, but is it? He's never missed a dose since we had him tested originally, so could he still get heart worms?

Since we have been on the topic of walking on previous questions, I thought I'd ask about your leashes.

What type of leash do you use for your dogs? Any good information to share? Anyone use retracting leashes? Do you have other good leashes to recommend to the group?

As with previous questions, you all know I cannot answer myself.

I do have some additional information to share about a family member. This person has 5 dogs. When he takes his dogs out walking (with his fiance), he uses the 2 loop nylon leashes found at any pet supply store. He says they are nice because that 2nd short loop lets you have more control if needed. He also uses a 20ft training lead when he is practicing recall in a park.

As always, your answers are eagerly awaited and I will choose a best answer.

Enjoy this question which still is most certainly not a poll.

It's got an unnatural huge stomach, it's so huge, it can barely walk. It has a dry nose, and shreds a lot! I just brely met it, and she follows me around like shes never been loved before. it's really upsetting to see. Please tell me any ideas you can think of that may be useful for this precious dog. Thanks. :)

I have a 10 yr. old female Chow/Shih-tzu mix that weighs around 23 lbs. For the past year or two, about every other month her stomach starts to growl alot (usually happens late at night--it lasts for about a couple of hours) and when that happens she usually doesn't eat. Well, about a year ago, I took her to a family friend who was a vet and he said she had tapeworms (which a dog can get from having fleas) which were making that noise. He gave me medicine for it, but it didn't really work. So now I'm with a different vet, and a about a month ago the vet told me that he thought that she might have some fleas so he gave me some flea medicine for her----recently I have found a flea on her which I removed (she is on a flea treatment). So now I don't know if she has tapeworms again or if there is some other reason why a dog's stomach growls?

for her booster shots. We already paid $60 for the shots and the vet I go to wants $53 for the boosters. We don't have a LOT of money to be wasting and I was just wondering how IMPORTANT the boosters are, if they are at all.

I am too young to get a job, so I do chores around the house, earning me 100 dollars a month to care for my animals. My dog has had a severe rash for awhile now that I've been trying to treat with homeremedies, but it just won't work. I am planning on taking him to the vet now, but to do so I need to take him off Canidae for awhile and put him on a storebrand food, which worries me. I think the rash is either some type of allergy, or hypothyroidism. In the best and worst case scenario, around how much am I going to be spending on medication, etc? Tried calling vet's, no precise answer, I don't want to show up with too little. Before anyone does start to come down on me, I live in a low income family and its getting rougher each day, I just want to get my pup well and healthy again, even if it means adopting him out to a higher income family if I can't afford treatment. Any other advice would also be highly appreciated right now, too, thanks.

My chihuahua had puppies 3 weeks ago and now the pups are COVERED in Fleas. I had to wet the one puppy to get the comb through its fur and to get the fleas to die. They are small puppies and I am afraid for them. My chihuahua didn't have fleas until about a week and half ago and I treated her with what the vet reccomended. The vet is not in the office all weekend for me to call her.

he has a folded up towel in his crate so it can be more comfortable for him but he keeps chewing it and messing it up. we put his food and toys in it but he ignores it and wants to chew the towel instead. we used to use a soft mat but he chewed it up so we switched to a towel. our last option is to remove it completely but it will be so uncomfortable for him. what can we do?

Gottcha!!
hehe

What crazy things have your pets done?

calm down...my dog didn't eat 10lbs of raw ground beef!

he did however manage to make a hole through a wooden door in my basement- which prob. took him all week- to run around the house and I caught him today when I came home early! I didn't notice because there are two doors that lead into his 'doggy room' and the bottom of one he used is hidden behind a desk...He also had to climb over old tables, chairs, and boxes! wow...he's ten months and well, it shows that he's clever and smart...how can you punish him for that? I think it was more our fault than his... :)

so, what are some of your great stories?
