he has a folded up towel in his crate so it can be more comfortable for him but he keeps chewing it and messing it up. we put his food and toys in it but he ignores it and wants to chew the towel instead. we used to use a soft mat but he chewed it up so we switched to a towel. our last option is to remove it completely but it will be so uncomfortable for him. what can we do?

It's a crate. My puppy naps in hers all the time. I don't even close it. Dogs don't think of it like us humans. To them it's their "safe place", their "den". I'm hoping that the original poster is not keeping it in the crate all day. Mine is in her crate only at bedtime because she likes to bark at every car that drives by and it's the only way we can get any sleep.

As far as the towel thing goes, I use a towel also, but I use old ragged ones so if she chews them up a bit, no loss. It also doesn't hurt to remove it completely. My puppy sometimes likes to lie on the cold tile in front of the fireplace or on the concrete garage floor.

My wife and I buy a real good rubber floor material you can buy at Lowe's or Home Depot. We get that for our four big dogs, and it makes them much more comfortable, and NONE of them chew it, not even our youngest "puppy" who now weighs slightly over 100 pounds, and used to chew up EVERYTHING, including our new house. It's not that expensive, and you'll find it where they have the carpets and other flooring material on rolls and they just pull out and cut the amount you need. You can get any amount you want, however large or small. We use the same thing in our kitchen, right in front of the sink, to give my wife cushion for when she's washing dishes or otherwise at the sink. It's good stuff, and not expensive, and NONE of our dogs chew it, and it doesn't smell bad either. God Bless you.

I always use newspaper. I tried the towel thing and the lambwool blankets...but either they chewed it up or peed on it! So, now I line my mini dachshunds kennel with newspaper...thick enough to give her a soft place to sleep, but if she wants to rip it up..I don't care! I also give her a couple soft toys to snuggle with and a small chew bone to keep her busy while I'm gone.

in the beginning i might prefer to assert that the idiocy of a few replies is only in actuality impolite, I thoroughly comprehend your frustration and picture you have carried out the main suitable element inquiring for any clever info. a pair of issues can do, have u tried a Kong Toy, you place peanut butter or cottage cheese interior it and the dogs licks it out it may take him faraway from his organic chewing. the different option is to coat an merchandise he generally destroys with a deterrent, those would nicely be offered at good puppy shops, in actuality it only tastes terrible (not poison/unfavorable) and could deter the dogs from chewing on the article. i might attempt this with a bite toy next to it and notice if he can discover ways to comprehend the version. wish this is of any use. I wouldnt propose rawhide on suggestion of my vet.

Get your dog OUT OF THAT CAGE. Oh, you called it a "crate"...whatever. A dog is a noble creature which does not deserve to be held prisoner in a crate/cage.

He is miserable.....that is why he is chewing his towel. He is suffering from anxiety and loneliness. Can you put him on a tie out? Or a leash line? Or within a fence? If your lifestyle or living situation is such that you cannot allow a dog to run around, you should NOT own a dog. Not everyone should own a dog.

Your dog's nature, energy, and intelligence require that he be allowed to walk, run, sniff new smells, protect his property and have a certain amount of freedom in order to stay healthy, both physically and emotionally.

Sorry to sound so harsh, but you asked for my answer.

you can go to pet stores and buy safe, bad-tasting spray made for this purpose. it'll teach your puppy not to chew up things, worked for mine!!
