silver nitrate stick

If you don't have silver nitrate sticks or Styptic Powder handy, pressing the cut nail into a handful of flour will help stop the bleeding. To avoid cutting too short, only trim the very end. If the nails are excessively long, you'll have to trim, then wait a few days for the vein in the nail to retreat back, then trim again, repeating until the nails are a proper length.

Styptic powder. They sell it at the pet store and it helps with the bleeding. Also, flour works. You don't need to cut your dog's nails if you don't know where to not cut. You cut into the quick which is where the dog's nerve endings are.

if its bleeding dip it in flour, it will stop the bleeding. if not, then just leave it alone and keep an eye on it

DONT use any kind of powder like baby powder. It will infect the nail with all the chemicals in it. If you have to use powder, use a non fragrant talc powder. But your best bet without having something specifically from the pet store, is flour

If it's bleeding, use an anticoagulant. Buy one at the pet store called "Quick-stop." Or see if you have one in your medicine cabinet for when guys cut themselves shaving, if you need one right away.

Never cut beyond the pink quick. If the nails are black and you can't see it, be very careful.

you can get a product called quick stop at any pet store. I would recommend getting some and putting it aside if you continue to cut your dog's nails yourself.

"Kwik Stop" pad. You can get this from your local pet store. It's better than the powder.
