Shelters and rescues do not (should not) charge for you to foster a dog. They may request that you provide the food, but all other expenses should be paid for by the rescue or shelter. All you need to provide is your home and love.
Ask the shelter or rescue for details.
Thanks for thinking about being a foster owner !

My local shelters are always looking for people to foster animals, usually puppies and kittens too young to be adopted out yet, but not always. Usually the shelter will provide you with the necessary items and food to foster. You will not pay anything to foster and you will be providing a great service to an animal in need. Thank you!

It depends upon the shelter. Call them and ask what they require.
My daughter was fostering a dog from our city pound. It got out of the yard when we weren't home and we never found it. We were charged the adoption price of the dog.

My boyfriend and I are fostering a doggie right now:) It doesn't cost anything unless you want to adopt him!! Of course you need to buy food, treats, and toys. It depends on the food you want to feed the dog. I spend about 40$ every month and a half on a 35lb bag of dog food. I use Canidae which is a very high quality brand of food..and it's better for the pup:) You can always make your own treats too. If you want a recipie (my dog loves these) let me know! Good luck and you're doing a great thing.

It really depends on the shelter you're asking. Some let you sign papers and let you have the animal, but you do have to provide every other need such as food, water etc.
But then some, will force you to pay a minimal amount ..
And then there are ones that even give you some food to go with the animal. Call and ask te shelter, THEY could give you the truth and the best answer. :)

Sometimes they ask you to provide the food. Whatever you do, be sure you have a foster agreement in writing!!!! I have seen many foster parents that got stuck with vet bills, and sick animals. You should be clear on what to do if the animals gets sick. Who to call, where to take it, who pays....all that info.

if you pull a dog from a shelter yourself and foster it on your own, yes it costs.
If you work with a rescue group and foster thru them, most rescue groups pay for the dog and their vet care.
