It is hard being the mom of a pup, i accidently dropped my dog when he was a pup and i thought i made his brain explode. (no harm was done). Also keep in mind that a pup may cry, or not move for quite some time because it is simply scared. So first, breathe. Unfortunately you have no way of knowing how hard he was thrown, or what happened before you walked in. Pups are very sensitive and can get things like concussions (although this takes quite some force). If I were you, being a worried pup parent myself, I would call a 24-hour emergency vet (usually your vet's answering machine has a number or look in the yellowpages). One of two things will happen, you'll be charged a fortune although youre pup is prolly ok (but you wont care cause you'll feel better) or the vet will tell you on the phone that theres not much need for concern. And i would opt to find a 24-hour vets number JUST because you dont know 100% the force the pup experienced and the person that knows may not tell you. Better to be safe and outta some money, then to be sorry and wished youd spend the money. I think that goes with anything when it comes to being concerned about your dog's health.

Well any head injury could be a potential dangerous problem, Depending how hard he hit it, where he hit it, and the fact he wants to sleep could me a bruised brain, concussion, or bleeding on the brain. His willingness to sleep suggests he has a slight concussion. If he is not shaking, seizing, or pupils are looking dilated. You are probably ok. Dont give him any medications please. He will heal on his own quiet well. give him peace and quiet but check on him often. If your vet isnt answering, and he doesnt have an emergency line to contact a doctor at, then you need a new vet. Almost ALL vets have emergency lines, and/or a alternate contact for emergencies. Please research a new vet.
As is my job I will alway suggest taking the dog in for a medical proffesionals opinion and not listen to a question/answers sight when it comes to living creatures.

I DID read your last post, it doesnt matter if he hit his head or if it was shaken. It depends on the boy who threw the dog into the air. Did he Toss with FORCE? did he SHAKE the dog in any way vigorously? If he was just lightly throwing the dog up for fun I doubt there is damage done, but its for a PROFFESIONAL VET to say NOT anyone here.

ARE you going to continue to give additional information untill you hear what you want to hear? Please be responsible for your dogs health. Dont give it anything, and if its such a concern for his health get on the internet and research emergency 24 vets in the area, call the ADVISE tech on staff. But I will tell you that they will just tell you to bring it in. I have been in the emergency first aid adminstration biz for animals for 9 years. I know the ropes. Its not a game to play.

You need to get him to a vet asap, call first thing in the morning. Your puppy can have some neurological damage from the tossing in the air and the shaking. It is no different than shaken baby syndrome. Dont wait. Call first thing, he needs to be seen. Do not medicate this puppy, and dont make him run or walk anymore. Keep him quiet until you can get him to the vets. I hope the damage isnt irreparable. Good luck.

Yeah this question was pretty long and drawn out.. I don't really feel like reading more back up material.. You cannot give your dog ANYTHING.. You have no clue whether he has a headache or not. He is sleeping.. If he is okay to sleep, he is fine he has no headache.. You will kill your dog if you just start giving him stuff. If you are truly worried, call the vet again.. Let it ring til he picks it up..

No one here is a vet and no one should be prescribing medication for your dog.. You need to call your own vet and deal with this properly.

Call an emergency vet.. it is no longer common for a vet to be on call 24 hours a day.. (some farm vets are, but that's different.. picking up a herd of sick cattle in the middle of the night is illogical) It won't hurt to ask, and it sounds like it might be a problem..

Right first off if you are just picking a fight because some kid is getting on your nerves then it sound like you have no self control. Second is that nearly all fight can be avoided and third it sound like you are just looking for a cheap fun. Mate if you want to learn some street fighting then go out get in a couple of fights and have your *** handed to you and you might learn something. But the best thing is just to not fight him and live and let live. You don't get anything from a fight except pain and suffering and a cheap thrill.

ever hear of shaken baby syndrome? it is where the brain comes loose and sloshes around, the result is tragic. Throwing the dog up in the air and catching it could cause major trauma to a small puppy like a chi, what the heck, the dog needs to go to the Er and have his head checked professionally asap. There could be swelling or a blood vessel leaking in there, arrrgggh, go to the vet tonight, it could be too late if you wait until tomorrow...

Try putting a cool washcloth on his head. I don't know if it will work, but I sure wouldn't give him anything before talking to a vet, especially since he's a chihuahua. I have a chihuahua, and he scares me when he gets the hiccups. Scared me so bad one time, I took him to the vet, found out then what was wrong....It's easy to panic when they're that small. But, try the cool rag and see if it seems to ease the pain.
I hope your baby has a speedy recovery!!! Take care! :)

I didnt see the earlier post but fortunately puppies are tougher than babies however keep an eye on the puppy for the next few days and keep this kid away from the puppy and other dogs. Whoever this child was if they dont understand you cant treat animals like toys dont let them near pets!

Dont panic puppies can be very tough!

Don't give him anything without seeing a vet. Yes dogs can sometimes have asprin (BUT NOT TYLENOL) but you are not qualified to judge the dose, besides, if he was injured and has any bleeding in his brain or anywhere else , asprin will make it worse. It thins the blood, thats why its good for heart attacks.
