hi i posted a question about my dog chasing cars ealier today, but i've got another query. Another family member (who the dog likes alot and respects) took him for walk today and apparantly he was nipping whenever he was being held at the collar and restrained [from chasing cars]. I'm concerned about this agression. The dog is the most friendliest dog ever all of the time, apart from when he is being held back from the cars he loves to chase. What can i do? I don't want a nippy dog! This scares me even more than the car chasing, becuase i can deal sort of alright with that, but when i'm holding him by the collar and he's turning round to nip my hand, thats a problem, becuase i've then got two things to worry about. Please Help!!

I saw this question about avatars:

I know I'm one of those people with a "small, cute" breed. And it made me wonder, how many people judge others by their choice in dog breed? Do you have preconceived notions about a stranger walking down the street just by looking at their dog?

(I don't really care if people think I have a "cutesy" breed. Papillons excel at agility, which is one of the reasons I chose my breed. I wouldn't chose a breed such as a bulldog for an agility dog.)

For example:
Do you see someone with a toy poodle as ditsy and cutesy?
Do you see someone with a pitbull as someone tough?
Do you see someone with an afganhound as graceful?
Do you see someone with a mutt as caring and compassionate?

(I'm not saying any of these are true, they just seem to be common stereotypes, so I used them for examples.)
.

Sometimes the kids leave the door open and out she goes getting all dirty. I've whipped her and even left the door open to test her several days in a row. But none of this has worked. What do you suggest?

My family was thinking about maybe getting another dog. We will get it at the humane society, but the humane society by our house is very large and has a huge amount of dogs, all different breeds,

So I wanted to know what mediumish-sized(20-65 IBS.) are good with kids and cats/other pets. Thanks

Reading the replies from sweet_co + answers4u made me feel ill - if only you'd seen my friend in the A+E, a grown man sobbing his heart out because he couldn't save his baby and trying to deal with the pain of his dreadful injuries. To everyone else - thank you from the bottom of my heart, bless you all. To the 2 idiots who don't believe me, check out www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk. English newspaper The Sun has got the story wrong today on pg 19 but the Daily Mirror are hoping to run it Mon. Milly was a beautiful Staff, almost 5 yrs old, black and white and the apple of her Dad's eye - God he misses her. He can't sleep because he relives that attack and my heart bleeds for him. he was let out of hosp Thurs eve but has to go back - two broken fingers, two fractured, 27 stitches in one wound, the other has to have plastic surgery, lost the use of his writing hand coz the tendons were severed. Thanks again to all those with hearts, i'll keep you updated, bless you x

Just wanted to hear from some of you on how much grooming a Husky would cost?
I have never had to deal with a groomer since I have Dobermans & we don't have that need.
Considering taking in an abandoned Husky . I took her to a groomer today, picking her up in a short while & didn't even ask what the costs would be. Oh well she needs it badly so the $$$ will be well worth it.
What do you think I'll be charged?
Bathed, trim, comb out, ears cleaned & nails trimmed.
Thanks!!!

My dogs got fleas, I treated them with advantage (a groomer recommended this I always used frontline before but she said her costumers were complaining about it), but they still got into the house. I thought if I waited it out they'd go away. A couple of days later I bought the Hartz 3 in 1 spray, & sprayed the couch & curtains (my house is all hardwood flours). Well that didnt work so I bought a bomb (same brand) & after that still saw a few so I sprayed down everything & washed all stuffed animals & bed clothes. I check my dogs & the fleas were back! I retreated them & they still are on them! (Its only been a little over 2 weeks since the 1st treatment & a few days since the 2nd!) I don't care what I have to spend I want to get rid of them! I have a one year old daughter & they are biting her terribly! any recommendations? Keep in mind the baby though, it has to be safe for her.

Is this a safe method- are these meds ok to use.( not expired ) I usually just get them from our vets office, but thought if they were cheaper online I'd look into it. Any suggestions of any web pages?? I have looked into Pet Meds. There prices seem to match the vets-

My good old dog (15) has been squealing when he tries to sit down or stoop (lower his back) to go through the doggy door. He does have a skinned place on top of a paw, so he probably was chasing something with my other dog, who is heavy and aggressive and just have a sprain or twisted muscle from crashing with her. But I've heard of old dogs having serious hip problems. I just noticed it last night (Friday) and I don't think it's time for the emergency room. He's licking the paw that's cut, so I'm thinking I can wait through the weekend to see if it gets better. I really can't afford to go to the vet unless it's really necessary. He's o.k. when he's relaxed and he can walk o.k. but puts back feet together before sitting. It's just when he gets up or sits down that it hurts him. This has happened before when he got into a scuffle with Sweetie (my rough dog), so I'm thinking its not that hip displasia that dogs get sometimes which require serious attention. What thinkest thou?

But i once heard someone said that if your dog has black spots on her body, that means she has fleas/ticks, well I already sprayed her after her shower with this insecticide I got at the pet shop but I can't help but worry that will it work? How long does it take to work and how does it work? I'm so scared and I don't want my miniature poodle to have fleas, thanks in advance and please help.

My eleven year old Irish Wolfhound died of cancer about two months ago. He was more like a child than a dog, and I loved him more than I can say. I know that no other dog can replace him, and I know I'll never love another dog as much as him, but I also know that I'm going to want another dog eventually. My sister claims that getting another dog so soon is insulting to his memory. How long would you wait to get another puppy? I'd be adopting a puppy, from a shelter, by the way.

I volunteer for my local Humane Society. We have a young Pitt bull in. I think he is between 6 to 9 months old. He likes to chew on toys like any other puppy. But he keeps tearing them up. What is a good toy that would be strong enough for a pitt pup?

I am a highly educated "backyard breeder" transitioning to becoming a professional breeder. I do not care for ramblings about why I shouldn't breed, etc. Yes I have a vet. I do not think it appropriate to page her on the weekend to ask her why my dog is panting. Yes I have done research. Yes I have all the appropriate supplies and a good environment for mom and puppies.
By the way, she doesn't have a fever though her belly feels warm from the milk coming in. Her vulva is not puffy and has no discharge besides a little bloody discharge after she pees. She has been drinking A LOT of water and eating A LOT of food. Yes, I have given her a little bit of calcium, in the form of cheese to help her recuperate from the birthing. And YES I am feeding her premium puppy food that my veterinarian recommended.
I still need to figure out why she is panting so much although I have taken her outside to the very cool back yard several times and she still hasn't stopped panting. Thanks!
