A lot of answers I read are show your dog whose alpha. How about show your dog some love and attention. How about letting your dog run of leash in a field for an hour, go home feed her a treat, than enjoy watching her take a nap. How about actually taking your dog out in public with you rather then shutting her up in a kennel or the house all day. You can't keep a dog locked in the house then expect her to be a social butterfly with excellent manners, then try to bully her into the behavior you want. Don't you think a dog has needs besides who eats first and who moves out of whose way first?

I'm going to have a few of these questions because I need about 100 dogs and their heart rates(just use your hand). I'm going to do some myself but theres no way I can get 100 unless I get some help so thank you! I would also need their height from their withers or shoulders down and if possible, their weight and breed. Once again, THANK YOU!!!!!

My mom finally agreed to get a dog a few weeks ago. Kinda sad considering I'm 17 and not 10 lol.

So we've been researching a lot of dogs. My mom does not want any big dogs, not even medium sized dogs. She wants a Chihuahua b/c they are small and my cousin has a Chihuahua and we play with it a lot so we know what to expect.

But I don't want one. Yeah they are cute, but I want a bigger dog, not too big but just slightly. And a lot of people we know have them.

So I tried to sell my Mom on a beagle. She says they are too big.

So what the hell is there I can get?

I don't want those small, fluffy dogs. I want a dog that gets to like 15-20 lbs I guess.

I think i just encounted a rabid dog. His eyes were human-like and he had foam coming from his mouth. Although I was just told he wasn't rabid, he was just hot. The person told me this because he ran from me. He ran; curved halfway ( as if going to chase his tail) and barked. But his bark was odd sounding.

PLEASE HELP! if he is rabid i need to contact animal control bc he didnt have a tag or collar on.

A family member wants to buy a small breed puppy, I think she would be an excellent doggy parent; however, she's not yet decided about the breed because all little puppies are cute; however, many of them lose their "cuteness" after a few months.
Which breed do you recomend as a cute adult little dog????

PS-I don't want to be biased to the breeds I've owned, that's why I'm looking for other opinions.

Still keeping with the vet thread...

Have any of you had to "fire" a vet? If so, how did you go about it? I know you may have mentioned it in previous questions but what were the circumstances? Did you get your records? Did you have any trouble getting your records?

I know this question may not be appliable to everyone but still of interest even if you are reading it.

My "Friend" with 5 dogs had to fire a vet once. She had a dickens of a time getting all of her records. While she had most everything in a folder for each dog, she still wanted copies of x-rays, lab tests and notes for her dogs. It took quite a long time and much arguing to get the material. Her old vet was a bit of a blow hard jerk and liked to over medicate dogs. She didn't realize this until she talked to her new one for a 2nd opinion on an allergy consult. Boy was that an eye opener!

Happy Friday all.

What else can I do? My son left our garden gate open today and our 2 dogs took themselves for a walk. It must have been about 20 mins before we noticed they had gone. Luckily one of them was just round the corner but we still can't find the other one. We and some friends and neighbours have spent the last 3 hours searching the area on foot, on bikes, on a motorbike and in cars but she is nowhere to be seen. I have called the police to report her as missing and it's my intention to call the local RSPCA and vetinary surgery in the morning.

I'm worried sick, will not sleep tonight and am wondering if there is anything else I can do.

She had near 0 platlet count on October 5th. After taking harsh doses of prednisone (100 mg a day) for a week, she was up to a platelet count of 220,000.

For the past two weeks I have had her on 50mg a day. Now she is at a platelet count of 217,000.

My vet wants her to stay on this 50mg a day for the next 30 days.

Will this cause any potential long term effects? I know she has a much stronger appetite and urinates (plus drinks) more frequently. I'm just hoping this doesn't do more to her system than that.

Any thoughts on predisone? I know it was a life saver literally in the short term. I'm nervouse about too much use though.

I have been looking for these two little dogs for quite some time now and haven't had any luck with finding either of them. I want to get one, so that when I move into my own place I can have some company. If there are any other little dogs that you know of that don't shed and that are cute, let me know :)

I frequent Baltimore County Animal Control on a regular basis. These animals picked up have 4 days, not counting the day they come in, to get adopted or they are put down. I do not look for anything in particular but try to help the ones that scream Help Me!! I went this morning after my chores to check out the dogs. As much as I would love to help them all, I'm experienced to know what may or may not work in my animal household/children/ work schedule. I ended up walking into the cat room and looked at the ones scheduled to be put to sleep tomorrow. Too make a long story short, I adopted a 4 month old male cat that looks just like a white tiger w/choc. points. Must be half siamese! I payed $60 for a microchip, neuter certificate, shots, wormed, and frontlined. Where else can you get a pet and all this for $60? This is the same fee for the dogs also. Also you get a care package. So why wouldn't you adopt and save a animals life? I'm just curious.....

I have a wonderful year old female boxer who hates it when I leave for work every day . When I come home for lunch every day on occassion i will find items destroyed and/or chewed by her and her hundreds of toys are neatly in her box. I assume she is venting because I had to leave her at home alone, but I cant quit my job and I dont want to cage her. How can I get her to stop being destructive?

I have used Frontline, Capstar, Advantage and flea shampoos, I've also used the Frontline Flea Spray. Nothing works. It just keeps getting worse. She is absolutely miserable and I am desperate for her some relief.
