How many seizures has your dog been having? it depends on the stage of the disease, but usually, after one week of medication, your dog may still be having between 2-5 seizures a week. Unlike epileptic seizures, distemper-related seizures are the result of inflammation, and their effects can often be reversible. You do need to be sure that you are in daily contact with your vet. A lot of times, the medication and dosages for this disease need to be changed every few days, to adjust with the progress of the healing. Make sure you know how to handle your dog while he/she is having a seizure, and pay attention if they are increasing. Do not hesitate to take her into the vet or emergency clinic if you think something is awry. This is a very expensive disease to treat, so your dog really stands no chance if you are not willing or do not have the income to deal with it. Good luck!

Years ago, i found a puppy that had distemper, I got him through it with a lot of love and attention. A few months later, he started having seizures, he was on medication for a while, and then stopped his seizures all together. Hopefully yours will too. Call your vet, it will set your mind at ease. My dog lived to be 12 years old, and had no other problems developing from his distemper.

Is it only her eyes that are twitching? Is she still alert and aware of her surroundings?

In any case, If she is having a seizure then she has an advanced case of distemper and my sympathies are with you.

CALL YOUR VET! Don't ask us for help when your vet is just a phone call away.
