I think i just encounted a rabid dog. His eyes were human-like and he had foam coming from his mouth. Although I was just told he wasn't rabid, he was just hot. The person told me this because he ran from me. He ran; curved halfway ( as if going to chase his tail) and barked. But his bark was odd sounding.

PLEASE HELP! if he is rabid i need to contact animal control bc he didnt have a tag or collar on.

Rabies presents in two different ways: furious and dumb. The Furious form of rabies is the one where animals tend to approach people, are very active and aggressive and may bite. The Dumb form of rabies is where the animal is more subdued, lays down and is lethargic - but may still bite if approached.

Call animal control. It's possible this dog was rabid but even if he wasn't, a dog running around with no collar is one that needs to be picked up.

Call animal control either way - they need to figure out where this dog belongs, because it sure isn't the street. Rabies is rare, but it is possible. Not all rabid animals are mean either. Some animals like squirrels or raccoons have been known to get closer to humans than they normally would. Basically, they experience a behavioral change from how they normally are.

If he is a stray you need to call animal control anyway. Whether he is rabid or not, a dog without a collar or tag is not a good thing.

No not all rabid dogs are aggressive. That doesn't sound like rabid behavior however you should call animal control any way. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Contact animal control. No animal, rabid or not, should be running around on the street, especially without tags - it could get hit by a car or bite someone.

I have no idea what you mean by 'human-like' eyes! lol
Also, don't know what country you are in, so don't know if there is much / any chance of encountering a rabid dog.
If he WAS overheated and out of breath, his bark could osund odd...and if he is nervy of strangers, he exhibeted classic avoidence body language.
BUT, if he had no collar or tag, most dog-wardens would want to be informed anyway, regardelss of health.
Hope this helps?

Rabies has various stages. Drunken staggers, disorientation, exhaustion, etc.
Call animal control right away. If they capture him & he's not rabid, they can take him to the shelter for treatment and adoption.

I don't know but sometimes when my doggie is running around at the dog park, he gets a little foam around his mouth. It freaked me out the first time I saw it but the Vet said it was normal.

Best bet is to report it though.

Yeah the poor thing sounds rabid. Strange behaviour like that. Havn't you seen/read To Kill A Mockingbird? Don't touch him!

God love the poor thing. He'll have to be killed if is infected.

Good luck!
