"You don't have the ability to generate homemade dog food that will have all the nutrients required that are found in commercial dog foods."

all the nutrients.... are you kidding!!! How about all the toxins, chemicals, dyes and scraped up roadkill.....

anything you generate will be infinately better than commercial dogfood, the nutrients are found in what you feed them, bones= calcium and phospherous in their perfect ratio, veggies and some fruits=vitamins and antioxidants, meat= protein, etc.
they can't have grapes/raisins
no onions or chocolate
no tomatoes(or rather, very little)
They should not have any grains, as they can't derive any nutrients from grains( there goes those nutrients again, the ones that commercial dogfoods are supposed to have, the ones that are almost all grain based), it will just be empty calories
if you are still nervous, there are some great dog vitamins and supplements that you can put in their food.
I would recommend that you cook as little as possible, and feed the bulk of your pups food raw. All meat and bones should be feed raw, as cooking removes the nutrients that your dog needs(note that all commercial dogfood is cooked=no natural nutrients, only the lab-made kind that are added later).
your library should have some books on holistic pet care and feeding, and you can do a google search as well.

I am not a vet but I am a long time breeder. I don't use a home cooked dog food for several reasons, and I recommend to all people who take puppies from me a premium brand of food like Royal Canin. They are nutritionally complete and the margin for error is very small. I know the whole poison ingredients is scary, but, like most things today once the media gets ahold of a story and runs with it .... I too heard of dead pets, however, why does no one mention the millions that were fine.... if you do decide to go with a home cooked food, you can get several recipes off the internet. The problem is "who" is posting them and giving you the advise... on the net anyone can be a vet... maybe visit your vet for personal advise about something so important.

I suggest just buying a high quality dry dog food. It's nice that you want to try and make his food but if you don't do it right he won't get all the nutrients he will need.

Have you called YOUR vet to ask?

The best food for a dog is a high quality dog food.

Honestly, you would be better off buying any supermarket brand food then preparing the food yourself. You don't have the ability to generate homemade dog food that will have all the nutrients required that are found in commercial dog foods.

You can thumb me down all you want. I'm the one who's the vet.

you should go to pet co. or walmart and buy the food because making your own pet food is hard.
