i have two mixed lab puppies (5 1/1 mos.) they are also inbred which could be a variable in my problem. u see i have an apartment and i keep the dog in the kitchen when we arent home with a baby gate. well they can climb over that thing no problem and when they do they tear up my house to crap! anything adn everything they can get into they do. so yes, i have a crate, but i feel bad bc when i put them in their they start barking and yelpin up a storm and u know i have neightbors on both sides of me and below me and theres NOWAY they CANT hear these dogs. they bark n bark until they bark themselves out i suppose. i want to be able to let them go wherever they want in the house without being so overhyper. they can just walk around and look at stuff and lay down somewhere. they have to run and chase each other around knockin crap off. its getitn to wear it'd be better getting rid of them, itd be less stress but i love them :) and i wanna try n get them well trained so i can keep them.

Since my husband leaves very early (or very late, depending on how you look at it, lol!) for work, I wanted to get a Pitt Bull puppy to prowl the house while we're asleep at night.

What I ended up getting is a pitt bull 'pup' that is about 5-6 months old. I think he's almost as big as he'll get, which is around my knees.

Here is what he looks like: http://www.gointothedogs.com/POM%20OCT%202004%20RAVEN2.JPG

The "problem" (if there is one) is that the dog is very nice & has a "bubbly Personality" so I am worried about him being the "guard dog" that we need.

I have two Q's:
1) Will he grow to become protective of us and not let anyone in?
2) How can I encourage him to become "protective" of this house & his new people (or is that something that even CAN be taught...maybe he just is or is NOT...?)

Can someone help that knows dogs?

Thanks,
Bea

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a bigger male breeding with a smaller female? I want to know the outcome of it. Like did she deliver vaginally with no problems or was a c-section performed. I am talking like a 3 pound difference in weight.

My friend has owned a dachshund and yorkie for about a year now. At first, they would just fight and play together, but for the past month I have noticed the dogs dry humping each other, with the dog being humped ignoring the act, and I also have seen one of the dogs lick the other dog's penis on a constant basis. My friend is confused and so am I. Why is this happening?

My 12 year old male Jack Russell Terrier has only recently started to eat plastic bags and I wondering does anyone know why this would be? His normal diet has not been changed and he receives regular exercise and is very rarely left on his own. Any thoughts folks?

Any information as to what the breed is like as a pet would be great, some of the main things i'm keen to find out tho are, do they molt much? What are there energy levels like, do they want to play all the time, or are they more laid back? Do they mind being left alone during the day, or is that a no no? How much do they eat? Are they quik to start barking for no apparent reason? How much exercise do they need? And finally whats the best/worst thing about owning a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Obviously i dont expect you to answer all my question, but it would be great if you could touch on a few for me, thanks!

After taking the girls to school this morning, I came home and found our dog dead in our house. This is a very sad situation. We adopted Dottie (our dog) 5 years ago when she was 4-5 years old. She died of an autoimmune disease. We have already taken her body to the vet to have her cremated. How do I break this devastating news to my children who are only 12 and 8 years old. She's our very first dog that passed away.

My dog chews on her paws constantly. Everytime we leave her alone for a minute she is chewing/licking her paws. When we leave her alone for hours at a time she chews on her paws and slobers on everything. We have tryed cleaning her paws, putting a bad tasting spray on her paws, and most recently muzzling her, but nothing helps. Is this separation anxiety? What can we do to make her stop chewing on her paws?

I take my 3 months old Chihuahua for a walk not less than 6 times a day. At this moment I have plenty of time in my hand. I will start my new job soon. I will be away for about 10 hours. I can't keep her trapped in her cage to avoid any accidents. I am wondering if I can train her to use a litter box just like a cat.

My dog, a schnoodle (miniature schnauzer , poodle mix) is 6 mo. old. I have had her since she was 3 months. She does not respond to her name. I know she is not deaf because she is stimulated by noise. I always use her name when addressing her and never scold her using her name. How can I help her learn her name?

I know that a lot of the wood chips/mulching is color treated, some have a bug repellent on them too. They may also contain some sort of anti fungal spray.
How can I use something like the pretty reddish wood chips in my backyard landscaping without risking my dogs health??

Okay, so this is the problem. Before I was going out with my boyfriend (before jan. 15, 2007) my baby (my dog) used to be the center of attention and she's really spoiled *she's so cute ^^*

We live in Florida and want a low energy, non-drooly dog that is happy being mostly indoors. It must be able to get along with people, babies, kids & cats BUT if someone breaks in the house or assaults us it will attack/defend. My husband is deployed freq. and I will feel safer at home with a dog. We also spend a lot of time in NC so it would have to be a breed that can tolerate weather up there. We want to be very careful choosing a dog, as this is going to be part of our family for LIFE.
