My friend has owned a dachshund and yorkie for about a year now. At first, they would just fight and play together, but for the past month I have noticed the dogs dry humping each other, with the dog being humped ignoring the act, and I also have seen one of the dogs lick the other dog's penis on a constant basis. My friend is confused and so am I. Why is this happening?

Dog do that all the time to show the other dog that they are in charge. It is not homosexual behavior. It is natural canine behavior.

The "dry humping" is an act of domination. And not domination in a sexual term. As far as the penis licking, dogs have no concept of "four play" so this again is not a sexual act. Your dog is not a homosexual. They don't again...understand what that even is.

Male dogs and female dogs mount each other for dominance as well as human legs. It is a dominance ritual - the one mounting is trying to show/make the other dog submit to it. It is not homosexuality one dog is telling the other dog I am in charge.
I highly suggest you break the dogs up because of the one being mounted tries to defy the one being dominant it could break out into a fight.

It's not only a dominance thing it is also a smell thing.

Dog 1: a male nutered just after his testies dropped before he could get testorone into his system to make him smell like a MAN.
Dog 2 :a male that was never nutered or was nutered later and had reached some point of maturity obviously smells like a MAN.

Since dog one does not smell like dog two, normally its the nutered to early dog thats confused, dog one assumes that dog 2 is a different sex then himself and may try to mount dog 2. Dog 2 normally only would mount dog 1 for dominance purposes because dog 2 sees dog 1's mounting as challenging him for his status cuz he is not nutered that's how they think. Dog 1 does not mount female dogs due to the fact they smell closer then say dog 2 does to themselves due to the lack of testosterone. In turn you could say dog 1 smells like a girl and dog 2 smells like a boy to other dogs due to the testostorone factoring as a major key. Dog 2 could inturn mount dog 1 cuz he smells similure to a female. it is all quite confusing but thats what a vet told me She just explained it better.

Dogs don't always "hump" for sexual reasons or because they're "confused." Humping is a form of showing dominance in dogs.

This is usually an act of dominance. The dog initiating this is most likely trying to become alpha dog. If the dogs were nutered, it may help somewhat.

I have two male dogs that do the same thing, it has nothing to do with being homosexual. I have also seen two females do the same thing at a friends house. It is a dominance thing. It is normal and I wouldn't worry. I just fuss when I see them doing it just cause I don't want to see that.

It's dominance behavior between two males, not sexual. They are trying to work out who is the alpha dog.

Never heard of it, but I think it's just a natural dog behavior. If you had two girl dogs they'd do it too.
