Chihuahuas are like babies. Really they are. They are companion dogs first and foremost who follow you around and sit on your lap, sleep with you, whine for you to pick them up. Long-haired ones and short haired ones both have the same personality characteristics. The short coated ones have the uglier "rat feet" and toenails. These are dogs for older children and adults not small children.

Absolutely wonderful. I have 3, non barking, loving and not schitzo long hairs. They are wonderful. Buy young as possible handle often, socialize all the time KEEP DOG FROM BEING FREIGHTENED. Fear will trigger the adrenaline-bark reaction. Keep pup up when around people and have them handle the pup always. Do this for the first six months and you will have a wonderful pet. Mine are 9, 14 and 12. OH oldest one is named Lucy HOW NEAT!

I have had two of them, and they are the most precious creatures, that I have ever known. They only truly take up with one person, and they are not good around kid's. I live alone, and they were the most loving animals that I have ever had.
