So everyone had to learn from some place how to train there dogs. I'm sure some had the benefit of growing up close to family or friends who shared a weath of knowledge.

I wonder, for those who did not have that nice little bonus, how did you find a suitable trainer to help you learn what to do in training your dogs. Did you at first, make a bad choice and go with someone less than experienced/reputable? How did you find that gem who guided you in learning how to train? What kind of resources did you use to find that person and/or people? Was the Yellow Pages even an option? Did you use just one instructor or did seek out training with a few different trainers to learn different methods/techniques? Does a trainer need to be researched to verify they actually know what they are doing?

With so many suggesting the "pet supply store training classes" (ugh), I just wonder if some really think it that hard to find a good trainer?

Not with my family members, but occasionally with a few repeat visitors, the dog gets this honking sound, sort of a cross between a honk and a wheeze.

I have a 7 year old husky, about 2 years back she was diagnoised with chronic lung disease.. The only thing we can have her on is prednison, and albuteral, well is has gotten worse on us. She sounds so uncomfortable when she sleep's her breathing is bad, she has lost her appetite, her energy and so on. And now that she has been on pred for so long its affecting her kidneys.. We have the bloodwork and urine tests and x-rays done, but what i want to know is has anyone ever has this diagnoises, and have any other options. It is just getting worse, and it does become financial, and im sorry but dont tell me lower income people shouldnt have pets.. I am trying my hardest but her comfort is my main concern, when do you say enough is enough? And the vet has not been able to come up with any other meds to help her. And it seems like the warmer the better she does, and with winter coming, im dreading the affect it is gonna have on her. If anyone has any useful info for me i would appreciate it

My son has asked, why is it that when you blow on a dogs nose, they recoil because they don't like it, but when they're in your car they can't wait to stick their head out of the windows at 60mph?

I dont get why people dont take the responsibility to train their dogs.... not just potty training, but i mean AKC / obedience training..... I absolutely cant stand it when a dog wont listen to its owner. DOGS NEED TO BE TAUGHT MANNERS TOO

and then they get neglectful towards the dog because it wont listen to them and they wonder why their dog is agressive

If my dog was to get a lump removed from his face, near his mouth, the size of a quarter, how much would that cost?

I know that when we was little he got a hernia removed from his stomach for only $150.00 canadian, so I'm wondering how extreme this would be. It seems like a ten minute operation, but then again it's near his mouth so some complications could occur.

My dog had a mast cell tumor removed a few weeks ago. Her stitches burst and were re-sewn. The vet told me if they burst again, there will not be enough skin to re-sew and to leave it open. It is now a 3" diameter wound and you can see the muscle underneath. I don't feel like I am getting good advice...any suggestions? Please, I'm desperate!

I live in a one bedroom flat, which although is one bedroom is fairly big and I have room enough for a dog to have its own bed etc in the lounge but it would be quiet for him/her. Im not aiming for a great dane or anything, a small scottie or something of that size. It has its own garden and I work within 10 mins of home so I plan to take it out at lunch etc would others feel that a dog would be happy or is this still unfair on the dog?

I have a dog who's 7 years old. He weighs in at about 70lbs and he should weigh 55lbs to be at the perfect weight for his build. Over the years he's just put on a little weight at a time and we didn't notice it was so bad until about a year ago. We started giving him measured meals and only icecubes for treats.

I was walking him twice a day for only 15 minutes but I noticed limping and swelling in his joints when we got back so I stopped walking him so much and started massage before and after the walks. We took him to the vet and she recommended he loose the excess weight as quickly as possible and that I could give him 1/2 a baby asprin if he seemed in pain. That does help but he hasn't lost any weight and when I try to walk him he will literally collapse after about 20 minutes and refuse to walk any further. It scares me -especially since he's too heavy to carry home.

How can I help my dog? I'm not ready to give up or loose him yet.

hello.People who have read my previous questions know that i got a dog off of craigslist.org. She is going well. When i got her, I figured out she was pregnant by the size of her teats(nipples) that was 65 days ago... I'm assuming based on how long ago i got her that it is coming to an end finally. But what is the maximum pregnancy length? Because all the pups are big and seem to be healthy. Though i cant technially see them, I can look at her tummy and see them moving around a lot. And a lot recently, the pups appear to be rotating so one secondshe will look fat, the next, she will be thinner. then fat again. So any advice reguarding this info would really help
BTW:Like i said, I did not breed her. and, Her previous owner said the father is a chihuahua. So i dont think will have complications. Also, I plan on spaying her when the pups are wheaned. And one last thing, She has a whelping box in a quiet and warm environment.
her temperature is about 99.5 as of one hour ago

Bull Terriers, ie: Staffy Bulls, Pit Bulls; I think we really need to get the word out about how gentle they are and they get such a bad rep. Does anyone have any ideas about letting people know how wonderful they really are.

I have a girl yorkie (akc reg.) that's almost 2 years old. I met a lady with a boy yorkie (akc reg) who wants to have another puppy and so do i. i was thinking of just buying one, but why do that if we can breed our two. I would expect that my dog may give birth to more than 2 which i would like to sell the others.what is the proper 'rules' for this type of arrangement? do i have to give any money to the stud's owner from my sells of the other pups? or since i am the females owner and have to get all shots for the pups, provide shelter until sold, etc do i keep all monies? never done this b4... also how do i register them (the litter) if i don't own both dogs but BOTH are registered. not trying to make a living out of this just trying to add another pup to the house
