Could be coccidiosis or giardia.

I would have them re-run the test. These tests are pretty darn accurate, but they're not 100%. Plus, if the dog is not very sick, he may have a low titre (not passing much virus yet) and the test didn't pick it up. Parvo has a very distinctive smell. Anyone who has ever smelled "parvo-rrhea" will never forget it. If your puppy ingested a toxin, it could have similar symptoms, or there was a sudden severe change in it's diet, but there aren't many diseases which mimic a serious case of parvo. Parvo survival depends on how sick the puppy is, how old it is, and in many cases, how much money you have to spend. Since one of the classic symptoms of parvo is bloody diarrhea, some of these puppies need blood transfusions. A really sick puppy, in my area, can run up a bill of $5,000.00 if they are at the emergency clinic, are really sick, and need blood. That said, don't panic. Most puppies don't end up that sick. The majority of the ones we see are up and at 'em within several days to a week. Good luck.

unfortuanatly Parvo test aren't always right or I had a pup once that the vet said didn't have parvo but had the bacteria that causes parvo and was treated the same way.
Luckily I worked there at the time so it only cost me $100 but would have cost $1,000 or more the dog stayed there for 1 week and ended up with a poor imunity system and ended up dying at 5 years old.
YOu would have to ask the Dr about his chances as well as any side affects or permanant affect from what he has

He may not be shedding the virus yet, thus wont have a positive test. Is his WBC count low, that would be another indicator. Most vets would proceed with treatment anyway, as its only symptomatic treatment and will be useful no matter the cause (fluids to prevent dehydration, antibiotics, vomiting/diarrhea medications) Chances of survival depend on how sick he is, but many pull through. Dont listen to the above poster about him being sickly the rest of his life, completely untrue.

My puppy had blood in her poop too. She had coccidiosis (sp). They put her on a cycle of antibiotics (21 days worth). She has not symptoms at the moment. I take a sample in 2 weeks to re-check. Good luck to you.

it could be corona virus. the survival rate isn't good if the pup hasn't had shots.
