THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST!!!! I have owned or fostered every breed imagineable and the only breed I fell in love with are the Labs, They are the most devoted, affectionate, loyal, intelligent, versatile, loving, and greatest tempermented dogs. They love nothing more than to be with you. No matter what you are doing they want to do, just to be with you. They are one of teh number one choices for service work because of the abilites to bond with others, their easy going temperments, they are easy to train, are loyal and obedient. They love all people and animals. They can be trained to do anything, but what I love most is their love and devotion. I would never be without one. They are goofy loving teddy bears. I will admit they have energy had pups and take awhile longer to grow up. But they are easy train because of their intelligence and if you give them enough exercise it is not a problem. Exercise is a big need for a Lab the more you give teh better dog you have. I take mine Kayaking, swimming, hiking, retrieving, sledding you name it. They love it and it is all exercise. They are very versatile so they do love water, the outdoors and you can train them to do anything. I love my Labbies they are the best. My two year old knows 75 words and object recogniton, and close to 100 commands and it was all easy to train him to do. If you have any other questions on food, what to expect training etc you can always email me at tritanbear@yahoo.com I love talking about LAbs.

yes, they are good pets, but you need to remember that the "preety black pup" will grow up to be a big girl that needs to be cared for for 10 or more years. Not every breed of dog is right for everyone- that's why there are so many different kinds of dogs. Before deciding on a breed, you need to consider your lifestyle and what you want from your companion, then find a breed that meets that criteria. For example, if you hate exercise, you don't want to get a dog that needs 2 or 3 long walks a day to be happy. Labradors are working dogs, and make wonderful family pets, but they can require a lot of training. All puppies are cute- but they are only cute pups for a short time, and full grown dogs for a lot of years.

labs can be very good dogs with lots of training.
they are hyper they need some way to vent the energy. else they will tear up a house.
they are pretty easy to train as long as u are consistant and firm(with any dog)
lab is one of the top breeds in the US, many end up in shelters because they do not train themselves and need someone to walk them daily....but i guess that is with most any dog.
i would also like to note that pet stores have pups from puppy mills...

A lab is a good pet if you like a big dog that is full of energy , has to be walked a lot, leaves huge piles of poop, loves to lick you, and generally acts like a puppy for the first 5 years and sheds all that hair all over your house.
study any breed that you think you may want before you jump in to getting it.
I've done my homework and I picked an APBT for their loyalty and ability to easily be trained.

Any dog can be a good dog if it's personality fits your lifestyle. That being said, it's advisable that you do some research on Labs before making the decision to get one. Here is a link including temperament, grooming, size, life expectancy, and exercise requirements.

Please be sure to keep in mind that dogs have basic needs that you must provide for. Be sure you are prepared physically, emotionally, and financially before adopting any pet.

ugh the lab in my obedience class is sooooo hyper, she jumps on people and has no respect for her owners. If you do get a lab, be sure to train her/him right from the beginning and have LOTS of patience!!!!
in my opinion, i dont really like labs b/c everyone seems to have them. Why would you want a dog that 5 other ppl in your neighborhood have........ get something unique!!
anyway lots of ppl have them because they are good pets i guess, i dont know. its the #2 most common dog, beaten by yorkies.

Yes they do make good pets. Labradors need loads of exercise and plenty of walking. It would be a good idea to check out local parks and walks. In there older years they are prone to being over weight but with exercise and a Heath diet should help prevent it. They are very loyal to the owners in general.

i have a five year old black lab and she's a wonderful animal. easily trained (be consistent and offer bits of dog treat for good behavior).
since she was small, she had LOTS of toys and dog bones, never bothered with shoes or any of my things.
labs are loving and loyal. for the first couple of years they can also be high energy. so make sure you are the pack leader.
you can find a lot of good information about puppy training if you do a yahoo search -- TRAINING A PUPPY, or CARING FOR A NEW PUPPY.

I have a rescue blk. Lab., he's now 10 yrs. old and with arthritis (on Metacam). Being a rescued fr. an abusive home (I rescued myself, fr. him being chained since 11 wks. old and beaten daily,.... but another story there), my Lab has probs., short attention span, was very destructive with digging, chewing things up from back porch/stairs, etc. Took long while, but he's mellow, laid back and tries to please now.
He does still have a hankering for cat poo though! Ugh!
Roots in the cat litter boxes whenever I'm not around.
Tried barracading cat room litter box area,.. the Brute just bombards his was through and gobbles up!
That's the main disgusting thing my Lab does.
Also, Labs tend to have an insatiable appetite and prone to overweight.
