We've also washed all the blankets, vaccumed, powdered the house with the flea stuff, we've tried EVERYTHING . they keep coming back! How do I get rid of them?

I asked a question earlier and presented these stats from the Brevard County Florida, county run KILL shelters:

Number of stray animals cared for: 17, 041
Number of dogs and cats euthanized: 8,866
Number of dogs and cats adopted or returned: 5,995
Average cost per animal in care: $75.32

The cost to care for these animals comes from our county taxes. So, it cost us about $667,787.12 for the animals that had to be destroyed. That is only in one year! That is only the amount the county paid, it does not include the cost of the donated supplies.

I just did a little more research and found out my county has about 426,953 adults. So that means that on an average, 1 in every 25 adults in this county has an animal that went to the county pound. (Again, this doesn't count the 3 privately run shelters, So I think a more accurate estimate would be 1 in 15.) And this is for THIS YEAR ALONE!!!!

What do you think of this? What are your area stats? What can we do to fix this?

If a person cannot afford i.e. regular shots and checkups, does that mean that they are or are not abusing or neglecting their animals? If they love their animals, is that enough? Or should those animals who are not receiving regular vaccinations and check-ups be removed from the owner's home? Why or why not?

About a week ago I said I hated puppy mills, breeders and petstores. Then I apoligized cause some of you took offensive to my question about breeders. Now that I think about it, I'm not sorry. First of all, why do people breed their dogs when there are already so many homeless animals being killed in shelters because nobody wants them? Yes, I have heard about people saying how much they love their dogs and care for them, but if you truely loved them you would not be breeding them and letting other innocent animals die! The pet population is already high enough! And the people that buy from a pet store and breeders arent making the situation better. They are just supporting them to keep breeding their animals. If everyone rescued animals, we wouldnt have millions dieing each year in shelters. We adopted our little dog that we gave a second channce. And I'm sure if nobody hadnt, she wouldnt be here. But unfortuantly I cant safe all of them. But the bigest question to me is, why do people

Well today I got a new puppy. He is a purebred doxen. He is 8 weeks old. He's all blake with brown on his legs , around his eyes, around his mouth, and he has white on his chest. But I don't know what to name him. I want to name him a real name. Not names like Skipper, Cookie, Bouser or silly names like that. An american or japaness name would be fine. Got any ideas for my new puppy's name? Plz help me.

I have a female maltese (1 1/2 yrs old, 6 lbs.) and a male havanese (1 yr old, 7 lbs.) that I would like to breed. I have never bred dogs before so I am just learning and am in need of some serious advice. I decided to ask this with hopes that anyone would be so kind as to share their knowledge, experience and insight with me to help me through this process. Let me start by explaining a few things because I know that many people are against breeding dogs, especially mixed breeds. First, my 2 dogs are the only pets that I own, their safety and well-being is my number one concern. They are both AKC registered purebreds. Both dogs have had excellent vet care, my vet checked them both numerous times and sees no problem with mating them now. I have no intentions of becoming a puppy mill or backyard breeder who produces litter after litter for the purpose of making money, my intention is to produce 1 litter for members of my family and friends, who are already waiting for these puppies and I will only ask them to pay what I have paid for the expenses of their vet care and other care required for them. All that being said, I hope you will see fit to give me any advice that you have in order for me to breed my dogs the right way.
Now for my issue at hand. On Tues Sept. 3, I first noticed signs of heat in my girl. There was a tiny spot of blood on her tail, however I'm not sure if she'd gone into heat before this as she is extremely clean about it and her vulva was not swollen enough to be really noticeable. Around this time my male was constantly trying to mount her, she would stand for a second or two for him and then knock him off, but he just kept on trying and trying (although his penis never came out of the tube). So at this time I figured she was in the first phase of heat, where bleeding is present but she will not accept him, and I figured she would not let this happen for 7-10 days. However, on Thurs Sept 6, I found them tied, around that time I looked at her vulva again and it was alot more swollen. Now I was confused, the only explanation I could think of was that she had started her heat way before I noticed it and was now in the second phase and that is why she accepted him. Ever since then she has been trying to flirt with him, sticking her butt in his face, mounting him, and backing up to him, but now he is not showing any interest in trying to mount her. He will smell her vulva and lick it but that's about it. Yesterday Sat. Sept 9, I noticed a tiny bit of blood coming out of her vulva, then a short time later I saw her drip a spot of blood on the floor and my male licked it up as soon as it fell. So, now I'm really confused, I'm not sure what is going on or which stage of heat she is in. The blood makes me think she is still in the first stage of heat and not fertile yet. But her actions and the fact that they tied already makes me think she's in the second stage and is fertile now. So I can't figure that out, and I also don't have any idea why suddenly my male does not want to mount her or how to get him interested again. Any advice is well appreciated, people wanting to bash me need not reply.

Do you really believe dry food cleans dogs teeth? If so, then why do 80% of dogs have bad teeth by the time they are 3 years old?

It kills me to see people telling everyone that kibble helps keep dogs teeth clean. It doesn't work that way anymore than crunchy cookies keep our teeth cleaned.

My pup of 9 months has had runny eyes for the last month; they seem more watery than usual and some whitish "eye-booger" type stuff (sorry to be so graphic;) is always gathering in the crooks of his eyes. I took him to the vet about two weeks ago and the vet reccomended eye-drops, which I have administered but have not helped! I have also switched to a hypo-allergenic dog soap to bathe him with, but no help either. Sometimes he tries to scratch his snout with his paws, which makes me think he might be trying to scratch his eyes. Other than that, I have no clue what is causing this. Can he be allergic to something else, or does anyone have any other theories or advice??
Thanks for answering:)!

I have an adorable 10 month old puppy named, Tank. I just can't figure out what breed or mix he is. He has bulldog/boxer features in his face, but a body more like a pit bull. Anyways, here are some pictures of my handsome guy.

My dog is kind of small, but not chihuahua sized. She gave birth to a puppy sometime in the early morning. I've waited, but she's only had one puppy. It's been almost 24 hours. She's fine: eating, drinking, keeping good care of the puppy, and she's still her happy self. I've watched her closely--she's seems normal but this is her first time having a puppy. I'm sure she's fine, but I just want to know if having one puppy is normal.

Also, any tips to take care of the mother and her pup?
