I suggest taking him to the vet and get a good check up and discuss the concerns with the vet to decide if it is right to keep him going like this or if they should consider putting him down for his own comfort.
I am very sorry that your family has to deal with this. I wish you all the best.

Your parents should speak to their Vet about the difficulties this dog is having with everyday life. Cataracts and arthritis are uncomfortable conditions for a dog, and sometimes can be medicated to make the dog more comfortable. The best advice for this situation can only come from a Veterinarian who knows and has evaluated the conditions of your dog.

If he is suffering he should be euthanized (humanly put to sleep). It doesn't hurt the pet, it just ends it's suffering. I have heard that pets that are sick or injured want to hide (go to a place where they can die). My dog when I was a preteen did run away. He was older and getting sick. We never found him, through shelters, etc. I think, as an adult now, that maybe he knew what was coming and was ready to be at peace. Good luck to you and your family.

PUT ME TO REST
Time to let me go my friend,
Because my life no-one can mend,
Its better to let me go this way,
Than watch me suffer night and day.
I'm happy to go, my time has come,
My quality of life is no longer fun,
Ive been so ill, so its not a bad thing,
To let me go forever resting.
Stay with me till I drift away,
Fast asleep forever I pray,
To relieve me from suffering and pain,
What more can I ask from my best friend.
Don't be sad, I'll be free from pain,
Never to be ill ever again,
I know you'll miss me being there,
But all the memories you have to share.
Thankyou for being my best friend,
And all my needs that you did tend,
Try not to be sad, try not to cry,
Now's the time to say GOODBYE

That's a hard one to answer. Of course you don't your baby to suffer. I feel for you. Maybe talking to the vet might help? Surely there are treatments out there that are safe for dogs.
