we think its because she wants to play with her. We just got the husky and we have had the small dog for a while. When we play with the husky, she ends up howling at the smaller dog. Before, when prissy, would get beans'(husky) toys beans would go get the toy from her and bring it somewhere else. Now she just howls at prissy.

What I mean by that is what characteristics and features do you have to look for in each dog in order to tell what breed they are? For example how do you tell the difference from say a doberman pincher, and say a rottweiler terrier, or any of the dog breeds that there are? Also where did they get their names from such as boxer, pitbull, doberman pincher, and so forth and so forth? Thanks for your answers in advanced.

A puppy wandered into my library yesterday, and while I'm trying to find a home for her, I'm also trying to figure out which breed she is. I'm guessing some sort of hound (she's got a tan head and feet, a black back and tail, and a white spot on her chest and chin). Does anyone know of an online resource where I could browse pictures to see if any look like her? I wish my library had a dog breed book, but we don't.

I have 2 labs. One is 1 year a female and the other is a 8 month old boy. They both are diggers they dig holes every where as soon as their outside, either digging or stripping the bark off of the trees. We have tryed the Bitter Apple Spary on the trees. They are still stripping the trees. I want to break them of this but I dont know how. Any advice would be great.

how can you train a dog to not eat stuff it finds lying around? Prescription glasses, paper, socks, etc. -- you get the idea.

I told him my thoughts wrt this. > : \ but I also told him I would ask the experts here.

TIA. :)

I have plenty of time to devote to my husky after 4:00p.m. But she seems to be lonely while i'm gone. My neighber says she will just lay on the living room floor most of the time i'm gone. Should I adopt anoter dog to keep her company? She is used to living with two other dogs. I just moved out of my parents house. They have two dogs. I can afford food and vet care for another dog. That would not be a problem. I just don't want two lonely dogs on my hands. This was a suggestion from my neighber. She comes over to let my husky out to do her business at 12 noon.

This question came up to me when I was reading the answers from NOdesignerdogs "post" about purebreds being in shelters....
and someone mentioned that most purebred who end up in shelters come from puppy mills, backyard breeders as no respectable breeders would "give" their dogs to irresponsible owners.... really? how can they be so sure? (genuine question -no debate)
my brother in law bought a puppy from a breeder and the dog is now agressive to the kids, growls, grabs the kids... I say it's not the dog, it's them, my brother in law and my sister in law. but what about the breeder???? that breed (visla) needs a lot of exercise and my brother in law's family is the opposite of the active family. and we all know what happens to a dog that does not have enough exercise or/and training!
Why did the breeder sell that puppy/dog who is now miserable in this inactive family to my brother in law? who confirmed me that he was indeed a respectable breeder...

I don't have small kids, he only fights with 1 of 4 other males. He has to go through the living room to go out. If he happens to want to "mark" it, we can't stop him w/out him growling & snapping at us. He was much worse when I got him & I've worked 1.5 yrs to get him this far. Sometimes he's just a sweet playful dog.

the selayang council in malaysia has instigated a really really really stupid DOG CATCHING COMPETITION.
it goes like this. the person who catches the most strays are rewarded with a large sum of money.
i can bet my life that these dogs that are caught are to be put down.
malaysia has really done it this time. i can say that what this competition is all about really does not set a good example for the coming generations.
i am disgraced by my country.
and therefore pls sign the petition below to stop this stupid competition

Breeders: What do you consider "healthy enough" to breed? If the sire and dam are vaccinated and receive a clean checkup by your regular vet, do you consider this enough to ensure the puppies will be healthy?

Puppy Buyers: Do you consider "Parents vet-checked and healthy" to be a selling point? Is this the only health check you worry about when looking for a puppy?

Ok recently my pup started destroying the house when we leave. He has never done this before. Last night he ate two bags of cupcakes and muffins that where on the counter, chewed up a DVD and it's case. Even chewed through my daughter bag. If we put him in the garage then he whines and whimpers and barks and I don't want to bother the neighbors or have them call someone because he is doing this. He is only left alone for a couple of hours three days a week. I don't know what has gotten into him. Like I said he just started doing this and nothing in the situation has changed. Any advice? Thanks
