I have just got my dog spayed 10 days ago, and the answer is: the average season is usually 3 weeks althougth it can be shorter. Because the hormones are still running wild for up to 3 months after the season has finished the best time is half way between seasons, most dogs have 2 seasons a year. So in the case of my dog she had her first season finish end of May the next one would be due at the end of Nov and we had her spayed 10 days ago and the stitches came out yesterday. All we have to do now is to keep her quite with lead walk only for another week to ten days, easier said than done if anyone out there has ever had a Boxer and she is only one year old!!!!!!!!! The last ten days with out really good runs off the lead has felt like 10 years. Good luck.

It varies quite a lot depending on the breed, but usually around 6 weeks. Some vets will spay during the heat cycle, but there is more of a risk of bleeding, and it's much more difficult surgery which is why they charge more. The vets I work with won't do it during heat, they ask to wait four months from the start of the heat cycle.
It really depends on your vet's personal protocol - ring around to see what's on offer, and ask their reasons for why they do or don't like to spay during heat.
If your dog has not yet had a heat cycle, get her booked in for a spay quick - she gets her maximum chance of avoiding mammary cancer if spayed before her first heat.

seasons last 3 weeks and they are at their most receptive between the tenth and fourteenth day. You can get her spayed 8 weeks (minimum) after her season.

dogs are usually in season for around 4 - 6 weeks, but this can vary and can be spayed as soon as their season is over.

My vet told me it was best to wait until my dog was out of heat for three weeks before getting her spayed.

My pit is 8 mths old and she just went into heat this week and her appt to be spayed was today. She is still bleeding and they were still able to do it today. Get it done as soon as possible to prevent any unwanted litters. She will be a lot healthier and a lot happier.

Ideally she should have been spayed before her first heat to avoid potential problems in the future. But it can be done at anytime.
